There's more than one way to skin a cat.

Unfortunately, I don't know any of them. I think I'll stick to lizards.

P.S. Google image search has a grudge against me for some reason. Judging by what comes up there, some people have a lot of artistic talent that goes to waste...I mean, they can draw whatever they want, but Christ... :\

If they like animals so much, why do they make them look like people. The tofu tells me this is best left unanswered.

I think its looking very nice. You could get the head to look more lizard-y by superimposing scales on to it. The eye looks very human, though that might be what you're going for, but have you tried giving it an alligator eye?
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.
2004-09-26, 8:52 AM #13
Actually, the skin is supposed to be kind of leathery. I'm only calling it a lizard because everyone else keeps calling it that. :p

I like the alligator eye idea though, I'll try that.

Thrawn, for crying out loud, use the EC. Making a separate post for each image so you can "attach" them is just stupid when you have like three other ways of posting those images.

Anyway, they're looking great.

The model's getting better and better all the time. Great progress and vision! However, I think you should stick to one pupil... 3 will make people very confused. Though I like very much the colours the eye has right now.

I think it would look better with just the center pupil.

So far, it's great!

Sorry CM--but it's the same server isn't it? Does it matter all that much?

Started work on a base skin. So far I'm still working on the torso, haven't started the arms and legs yet. I'll give him clothses later.

The skinning looks great so far.

One gripe though...what's making the armor stick on? I'd say either spend a few more polys or just texture on some bands or straps to hold the armor on. It would make it MUCH more realistic.
2004-09-29, 1:49 AM #34
Have you started to draw a skin that would integrate the armor better, like Murc said? Now the armor, worn just over naked skin, doesn't look very protective at all.

Otherwise I don't know why you say it's not going well. I think it's pretty impressive!

Not only that, but you'd develop huge calluses from the chafing all over the body. There's a reason why men-at-war in plated-armour fought with sweaty padded jerkins for hundreds of years :)
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

The limbs just arent blending with the torso :S Other then that, looks good.
2004-09-29, 3:52 PM #38
The nekkid skin is just a base--I don't know yet how I'm going to design the clothes, so I'm getting it done first. Jumsuits, straps, etc. will come later.

That's why I said it wasn't going well. :D Although the arms meet the body in the back really nicely, I dunno how that happened. :p

It looks like a UVW map stretch on the shoulders. the black line on the hips can easily fixed, dont give up man. Though its usually not common to edit the UV coords. once youve exported the maps, its not impossible and will kind of help you get things stretched right. You still working with Cinema 4d? I have no idea how it works, but you obviously do. I have faith in you, keep it up!
