Here is some stuff I've been working on lately in my current JK project, Attack on Theed: Final Assault.

Keep in mind that this project is much more then eye-candy. It has objective-based multiplayer mini-missions which, through the corse of playing the level, evolve the palace into a battered war-zone. I have some super-sweet cutscenes (in my opinion) but unfortunently I was not able to take screens of them due to the player flags I set to the players during them. :P

Please excuse any obvious errors (like sky and lighting) because these screens are taken at the production stage. Here are some screens:

Wow, that is absolutely unbelievable! I love the color and quality, not to mention sheer variety of the textures, and that vegetation is ome of the best I've ever seen in JK! Did you make them?

All in all, this looks brilliant, but I just thought this project had died off ages ago. I guess I was mistaken, and I'm glad I was. Superb Effort!

Yeah, a whole lot of great work. It just needs proper lighting.

Looks real nice. My only complaint is that I don't imagine there would be cieling fans or modern lightswitches in star wars, and those paintings might be pushing it a bit too, but for the most part it's outstanding.
Moo.

Heh, yeah Cow. The fan and light switch room is hidden in the level, and the paintings are from a different level, i was showcasing my head in that pic.

I like it, but I have a suggestion:
Those brick textures are everywhere, try to vary them.

Other than that, it looks nice.

... I personally don't care for the textures. Too satured, too bright, too much color. This might be ok if you're trying to recreate a cartoon or something, but in this case it just doesn't seem to work. Not to mention a lot look like you were messing with seran wrap filters on them.

Lighting could seriously use work (I know a lot's not lit, but the areas where it is, could use work).

The brick textures don't seem to fit at all for Theed. The whole area in general doesn't look like Theed. Looks completely unlike it, lol.

Yeah, these textures are my first real shot at making textures.

I don't know about a "serand wrap" filter or what ever you were talking about Wolf. I texture all my stuff in JED, i try and align them the best i can, but it doesn't always work out. :P

Some areas looked really poorly lit because they are lit to be night time, while the surrounding sectors are full bright.

That looks really awesome so far. I think some areas (like the sprial staircase) could use a greater variety of textures, right now it seems to use mostly the tan brick texture.
I bet you think that's funny, don't you.

What happened to the original areas you used to showcase. They're still there... right?

Well, one of the main problems with the textures is they seem to be overly colorful. Overly saturated. The levels also seem to be off. Some junkin around with the Highlights/Midtones/Shadows should help with it. Maybe lower the saturation a bit, and decrease the contrast.

If you want a decent way to get good with textures, there's several tutorials out there. I'd suggest following them at first, but messing around with it a little, experimenting within the bounds of what they have you do. Another good trick for textures are texture overlays. These are the details of a texture, the form, the shape. They should be in grayscale. You finish your texture about how you want it, and then you apply an overlay based on what it's supposed to be. If it's supposed to be a metal texture, a good metal texture will add fine and realistic metal details.

The seran wrap thing is like what we see in the grey metal on the dish, and the purple texture are the most prominent examples of it. The wood is another example of it. Those brighter lines of light tan look really out of place on it. I'd lower them down to a darker brown to more fit in the rest of the texture, instead of the odd light ripples on top of it. It basically results when you have repeated rippled lines of brightness on a texture.

On another note, I like the level, though it doesn't make me think of Theed. In that respect, the previously displayed versions were superior, I believe.

Thanks for the tips Wolf.

Yes, the other areas I showcased previously are still there, these are just different parts of the palace.

BTW, the Star Wars DVDs OWN! :)

That is some great archi you've done there.... I'm quite impressed... I love your attention to detail. My only gripes (since I'm not allowed to complain about the lighting) are those textures:

1. Colors too bright and cartoony

2. Overused brick texture, add at least 3 more variants

3. That water should not be blue at all... unless it has a 2000 Flushes in it. The non-flowing water in the outdoor areas can be blue, but is has to be the same hue as the sky, at it would appear to be reflective of it.

4 I don't dig that texture for the balcony's beams... maybe because they're such an obvious 2D representation of something that really should have been archi or a 3do in the 1st place.

Otherwise I love it all... cant wait to see it done!

First of all: Are those spiral stairways 3dos? I just don't know how you could not be hitting the adjoin limit in a lot of those shots.

Second of all: That breathtaking, with lighting it will amazing.

Now...the nitpicking.
The tan texture could be a little rougher, and yes...I agree there should be a few more variations of it.

That flat railing texture some one else pointed out. It just looks bad and mars an otherwise amazing work. Just make a 3do and jam it under there instead....that 2D texture just isn't cutting it.

Hi,

In case you're interested - I've got a couple of Megabytes of unreleased Theed and Theed Palace Textures around somewhere. They were originally created by me for the TPMTC Theed level that was never released (it lacks cutscenes and permission by the makers of the TPMTC mod to release it). Quite a pity, was a lot of work back then in - what - 1999?

Anyway, the textures look like somewhat like this: [http://www.campingpilot.com/jk/naboo/theedwall1.jpg] (try theedwall1-9.jpg for more examples).

Cheers,
Goofz
