Pretty good, but you should change the floor texture. It shouldn't be the same as the wall. The light fixture texture could look a bit more detailed as well.

Not bad... but as mentioned above it needs some minor texture work.

The textures are going to be changed

I'm sad to say that this is JA people...

Casper, hallways are great, but you really need to use more than the clone tool. People like elaborate, but realistic hallways. Try being useful, rather than pretty.

Just, looks like JK and not JA

the lighting in certain areas gives it away right away that it's JA. that's the main thing i cant belive people miss when thinking JA is Jk. i can tell automatically, but of course thats just me. not everyone edits Q3, so i can understand.

anyways.. yeah... looks kinda bland.
2004-10-06, 9:31 PM #13
The lighting is rather hard to notice, I thought it was JK at first too :o
2004-10-06, 9:48 PM #14
well yeah, its harder for you to notice. thats natural.

yep

Anyways it looks like a good start, keep at it!

Yes, this is notably not JK. JK just doesn't render like that. It has it's own style of rendering which is normally easily recognized.

Anyways, as for the hallway, well, even JK could do better. Don't make it so circular. Add some more shadows to it. New textures completely necessary. Add more details. Look at pics of the show to get a better idea of how it should look.

It's the texturing. Bland JK-like textures.

Nice archi though. I like the pipes.

^--- that, and it's fullbright. No real lighting. I like the architecture. Textures do need some work. And the floor texture has to have...uhh...is it red and green lines going down the middle?
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.
2004-10-07, 5:07 AM #19
Heh, that's just it. It's not fullbright, you can see the faint shadows behind the pipes and on the floor by the door.

Thanks for the constructive feed back. As kirby said I will Make each corridor look differeant. I agree It does look the same.

Why use a lowpoly gate when there's an awesome high-detail one out?
2004-10-07, 4:02 PM #26
My recomendations. Please forgive me if some of them don't fit too well with the SG theme, as I haven't spent too much time watching it SG:
  • Add more detail. Some of your surfaces (such as the Stargate room) have huge, bland walls. I don't recall any of the walls for those chambers being flat; they were covered in pipes, had gratings, bulkheads, etc.
  • Find better textures. Even if you increased the polygon count by 900%, you'd only improve visual quality by perhaps 10%. Good texturing is everything. For the ribbing in the hallway, I would try looking for a metal texture showing some form of detail, such as perforations, grooves, or some sort of pattern.
  • Fix the lighting. I'm fairly certyain that the lighting's a WIP, but never underestimate the power of it, especially if it's colored.
  • Use AA for screenies. You may not normally play with AA on, but it makes the shots look a lot better, and may get you better, more objective review.

Anyway, keep up the work. Remember never to underestimate how important texturing and lighting is... spiral's HaVen shows that well.
