An early stage of a FFA level (for contest, of course, if I can make the deadline.) I was wondering if the tone and atmosphere is good. I was aiming for the "rusty" and "garbage processing factory." Personally, I'm not really happy with the progress so far, but might use this if I can't work anything else out (or don't have enough time.) *shrug*

I guess I'll get back to work.

For some reaosn, it has a really old school feel about it. I really like it.

Looks a bit like a fusion of Quake II, Ravensofts Nar Shadaa maps, one of Gonk's maps for JO (which was sadly never finished) and Ravensoft's rancor map (first one of the prisoners) all rolled into 1. Not your best work, but not a bad catch either. See you in the ring ;).

It seems a bit.. messy, I don't know. I loved the clean style that you always had.

I like the red glowy computer panels. I also like the contrasting blue and orange lighting. Looks pretty nice.

I like it! Good work. I hope you will script some nice, loud, deadly garbage processing machinery in it, with appropriate effects, of course.

I can't see anything except the glowy red panels and the windows. Maybe it's just this monitor.

Nice pic, show more.

Although dark, it seems to have decent tone. I felt that most of the JO maps (JA improved on this) were all bright and cartoonish, lacking any form of atmospheric tone.
2004-10-14, 5:54 PM #13
Eh....I don't like the red panels... They're too bright and the color doesn't match. Also, the small pipes up to the top left, I think they should be a bit bigger.

Other than that, it looks good!

I agree. I think the problem is that you've got a large room cluttered up with little things. The lights are tiny, the pipes are thin (much too thin IMO), and the blue things on the ceiling are thin. Your lighting is great though, I just think you need some more big stuff.
2004-10-14, 9:36 PM #15
it reminds me of one of the first maps from MotS where you're Mara.

and what the rest of them said...i dunno. it feels right to me. the pipes...could be a bit bigger, but who's going to notice when you're chasing after someone with a lightsabre?

and i love the contrast in colour temperature. its great.

i like it a lot. the only thing i can think of as far as suggestions goes would be to try a different color of glass. it sorta sticks out. keep digging. :)

I personally like that look alot, it makes it look like that room is actually getting used, half the stuff in JO looked like it had just come out of the wrapper ;) I like both the orange and blue lights, though I agree with Blood ASP the glass is a little too wierd.

Jedi_Goon: The Lights are just alphablended shaders (ie see-through) on bent cylenders to make it look like the room is either foggy or dusty :p

Duh:confused: Whats a shader and especially and alpha-blended one?

A shader is basicly a texture with special properties. The author of a level can create shaders to tell the game to make something see-through (also known as alpha blending and GL_ONE/GL_ONE blending) or they can make it multi layer and they can make things move or all three at once. Shaders are what make surfaces in quake 3 based games and many others dynamic so that all surfaces don't look like they can't ever be moved. Any help?

Btw, any new screenshots for us? *looks hopeful*

Gotcha, like the Vjun textures or Kejim, but that still doenst help me to understand how the heck you get a spotlight like the one in the Rancor mission in t2[http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/FG0091/spotlight.jpg]

If you really want to know that, post a thread in the editing form :) Lots of great people to help there. This really isn't the place for that.

I might suggest that that's not a lighting or shading effect at all; it looks like a simple transparent object placed there, with the becksides made to be invisible.
