Tommy gun

Hi all, I'm making a WW2 mod for jk, so I made a tommy gun for it. How does it look? My friend says it looks really good.

I would suggest you find some referece. Try googleing a thompson sub machine gun.

Looks like you put effort into it, but it doesn't really resemble a Thompson SMG in any way. That stock thing is way too big and boxy, and the barrel looks more like that of a bazuka. Honestly, it could pass for a futuristic alien missile tube.:p

Anyways. It's good for a first try. I just think you should look at some reference pictures, and model off of those.

Just one more thing. The Tommy's used in WWII actually had a long, straight clip instead of the round ones used by Chicago gangsters. ;)

also the straight clip held 30 rounds while the drums held like 50...

just about everything on that model is wrong. sorry.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

Well, it might not be a Thompson, but I guess it's still not bad for a first attempt. Keep practising.

It's generally a good idea to have a reference of the thing you try to recreate, instead of doing it from memory :S Unless you have but a photographic memory, which is proven false by this work. (unless you've never actually seen one before... I'll shut up now.) .

Making gun models is hard. Especially in JED. I sympathize, but encourage you to persist. Things will only get better. :)

Daft's right.

a_person and I have (according to other critics) improved exponentially in jed modelling. It just takes some practice.

Really, when I saw him unveil his minigun, I said "Hey, he's getting better, maybe I can too". And since then I have.

Also, if you need help making (perfectly) round sectors, check out the Perfect Polygons tutorials, or get the GoRotate jed plugin (link to temporary jed plugins storage available from signature). Both work equally well.
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

Delphian: That's the M1928 model they used in the Africa and Japan campaigns. The M1 model used in Europe looks like this:

Sorry, my bad.

Are the barrel and drum supposed to be round? They look kind of misshapen in that pic...

But anyways, yah. Keep at it. You'll be making amazing gun models in no time. Well, it'll take some time, but you know what I mean.

Nice try, though you can, and will, certainly improve. As far as I remember, the Thomson 1928 could use either the 30-round straight clip or a 100-round rotating drum. The rotating drum made the gun quite famous as a "gangster gun," evidenced in more recent movies such as The Matrix.

As for making cylindrical sectors in JED, I cheat (and save time doing so): I make a round sector in WDFUSE (Dark Forces Editor), then simply import it into JED. Much quicker than rotating & cleaving.
Wake up, George Lucas... The Matrix has you...
