Art of the Lightsaber re-released
2004-10-29, 1:27 PM #1
I've just sent Art of the Lightsaber to Massassi! 5 years late! Actually, this is an updated version that fixes several bugs the original had and adds a couple of new things. I made this update almost three years ago but never got around to releasing it (procrastination is not a good thing :D). A recent post about the mod on the discussion forum made me dig into a backup CD and pull this baby out. I fine-tuned a few small things and there you go, AotL finally on it's way to Massassi.

The reason I never sent it to Massassi was that I forgot to include the guide document in the original release, and so I wanted people downloading it straight from my site (Sandcrawler over on OD-34), where the guide was available.

A bit of history for those of you unfamiliar with the mod: AotL, along with Spork, marked the beginning of the saber-mod era in JK editing. It's animations and robed models were used in numerous TCs and mods of the day. Countless clans popped up dedicated to playing AotL, among them an Italian group with a couple hundred members that wanted to commission a sequel mod - they offered to collect a dollar from each member or something like that :D

I've always been a showcase forum guy, so this just didn't feel right posting on the discussion forum. Here's a couple of screens to justify it being here. This thread should also be used for praise/comments/donations :p

Oh wow.. those pictures bring back memories... I remeber you allowing the TPMTC to use that mod as the base for the gameplay.

Those were the days..

Oh how i miss them.

This is probably my first post in ... almost 4 years, maybe more. Just popping in to see what was new.

Hows it going Fardreamer?

I'll try to get this posted tonight or tomorrow. I usually only check the files inbox about once a week, because we only recieve about 1 or 2 submissions a week on average these days. :(

I tried posting it tonight, but I'm having problems logging into the FTP server. I'll try to get the problems sorted out as soon as possible.

I remember always playing those old saber mods and AOTL was always my favorite. The only downside to it was that it was only MOTS (if my memory serves). Might have to re-install JK for this one.

That's a nice self-contradiction there, FireStorm ;)

Sorry I didn't reply earlier, I had a very busy week. Here's the description I sent Massassi:

Quote:
Art of the Lightsaber is brought back to life (a little late) in this updated version that fiixes many of the old bugs and quirks that plagued the original. Art of the Lightsaber is a mod for Mysteries of the Sith that aims to immerse the player in Jedi lightsaber combat. It features an overhauled lightsaber system that includes various new moves and combos for practically any key/movement combination; evasive moves such as rolls and lips;
improved Force powers; and a collection of robed Jedi characters from the films and EU complete with their custom saber hilts.

I'll add that the sabers blades you see in the screenshots were included in the beta in '99 but for some reason I decided to leave them out of the final (I have no idea why). I put them back in because using the old colorful JK blades just doesn't feel right.

As some of you recalled the mod is for MotS only. It uses a few MotS-exclusive CogScript functions (mostly in Force power scripts) which made it hard to convert to JK, even though looking back now I should have just left those powers out and gone ahead with the conversion.

Well i would have to reinstall JK to install MOTS so there :p

Hey Skywalker nice to see you are still alive :)

Fardreamer, man you worked on this soooo hard, strange I was going through all my Zip disks and found all the TPMTC stuff that we had got.

Cant wait to play it again and see whats new from the TPMTC version I have got.

I'm actually quite interested in some of the resources for TPMTC... think you'd be willing to contact me on MSN/AIM sometime?

I'm probably the person you want to get in touch with regarding TPMTC, Kirby. I kinda took up the reigns after Skywalker resigned. I'm in touch with most of the old members, and I know some of them still have the files.

Very nice... As was said, too bad it's only for MotS; would it be possible to make a version for JK? (albeit without colored lighting, of course)

Anakin - there aren't really any new features, other than the character building screen and the saber blades; it's mostly a bugfix for all the annoying little problems that plagued the original.

Nottheking - you're right, it wasn't very smart to make it for MotS in the first place, but that was five years ago. I've moved on since to other persuits and I'm not going to spend any more time on this mod, especially not on a JK conversion :p Even if I did it wouldn't really matter because very few if any would care to play it.

I might convert it to JK. :)

In case you can't wait for Massassi to upload it, go to the Editing Hub for the download. Look under the Addon Updates (the middle column).

:)

Hey Fardreamer, whatever happened to your ledge hanging COG? I remember you completed one not long after I did mine, which was plagued by level design dependency.
