blah.

I said to myself, "I hope this is worth my time."

I didn't even lose a minute, and I heard some good sound coupled with interesting video. Where did you get (or how did you make..) that sound?
2004-11-02, 9:06 PM #3
recorded the sound of my scanner upstairs completing one scan, then i made the scanner bar in photoshop with some solid white bars being motion blurred at different values and layered on top of eachother, then, in premiere, had the bar move/stop/change directions based on what sounds were made. sounds kinda easy, but its somwhat tedious to get them to move to the right areas/ways with video transitions.

I imagine so. Very cool, in any case. You could do better, though. If you look you can find a lightsaber making tutorial. A less exaggerated (and white) version of that would probably be more effective.

A much easier method to do the photoshop part would be to make a thin white line, then do an outer glow layer effect. Merge all, and import :D

Works quite well!

But the fact that you exported it to .wmv disturbs me. Do something better, you have the programs for crying out loud :p

it's for online distribution, it looks almost the exact same quality as the .avi and its the size of a respectable jpg. there's nothing wrong with wmv. WMP (and a bunch of other programs) plays them fine.

Ahaha, cool.

Caz + bored usualy ends in something horrifyingly gross yet awsome. This time it's just awsome. Nice work.

A better way to do a lightsaber is to use linear gradients. There's a special one that creates a band of one colour and then gradients of the second colour on either side. Merge all/export/done.

If you don't get that, just say "wha?".

PS Awesome Idea, I wish I thought of it too...

yeah, i wasnt really going for saber-ey glow. just the light tube with a somewhat faint glow around the main glow, but yeah.

thanks for the comments everyone. did change the logo at the end, it's all in the video game font and the top and bottom text parts are seperated by a line.

If "Polybius Productions" was just using less pixelated font, it would be perfect. I heard you say something about Gamer font, but I still think a much snazzier, more stylish font would be appropriate. Very creative and cool though.

Well, you could always try green lettering like the old computer monitors, and/or a slightly off-white for the beam (it's kinda blue-ish i believe.)

About the lettering, the Polybius is fine, maybe just try a different font for Productions, I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.

Just a little more finishing touch and extra trimmings will make this look more professional, it won't take away from that '2-cent'-esque image, which is clearly the message you're going for. :) By finishing touches I mean like some kind of glow/animating sheen/glow maybe after the title is revealed. Think of the old Blizzard logo in Warcraft II and Diablo, then dumb that down a bit. Subtlety is always good! Maybe instead of having the logo fade at the end... have it turn off like a pc monitor, or get distorted or something... Stuff like that.

yeah, i had the productions as a different font before, but i just liked it all being the 8-bit font a lot more.

i do like the turning off like a monitor idea, though. ill try to figure out how to do that in premiere.

updated once more. the glowing at the end doesnt do any justice to the real thing. it's a much more crisp, turquoise glow, and the noise (as in an image filter, not the sound) looks a lot cooler on the text. but yeah, you get the idea.
2004-11-08, 1:06 PM #20
i normally dont like bumping... but i'd really like your opinions on it.
2004-11-08, 2:21 PM #21
Ouch! Getting bumped... hurts...

It's cool. I would change that lowpitched sound to a few little shocks to anticipate the screen going out. That screen effect is cool. And another thing I thought of was putting an image filter over the original green letters for some texture, instead of just 2d/flat. Just a little noise or some kind of surface (like the matrix 1 when the camera zooms thru the security cam with mr anderson being interrogated by agents, or something).

Keep up the good work!

updated hopefully for the last time. i really like the static stuff.

oh, PA, there's been noise on the lettering for a while, its just you cant see it cause it had to be compressed to be a wmv. it looks good on the avi though. sooo.. just wait for the dvd of president evil i guess. :)

cool, much better. keep it up! :)
