It isnt much...But i am going to release it this time...As you can see, i didnt really added all the details, and the altar in the high place of the curchy level is not done...far from done. I am trying to make a sort of level with a few outdoor and a few indoor places. List of my things to add list:
  • Support pilars on the outside
  • A good outdoor darkish atmosphere
  • add some details to the rooms
  • try to make a good window (the neo-gothic one...and its hard to do it)
  • lots of scripting...and ofcoure: Boobytraps
  • redo do the lighting (it sucks bad)
  • ask a lot of people for help :p
  • finaly...if it suck bad, or R0><0r7 B0><0r7, still going to release it

Please give all the comments, flying arrows with flames, are love beams you want.

BTW. I am basicly makeing this level for improving my scripting...hehe, i wont even get a simple cutscene to work :p (http://forums.massassi.net/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26975).

then brighten up your screen :p
2004-11-13, 9:46 AM #6
then everything else that operates at a normal brightness would then be very bright. how about you up the brightness in your level so we dont have to conform all of our other settings to it, ok? its really not that hard. even some ambient light could fix most of it.
2004-11-13, 10:01 AM #7
I can see it fine and my brightness is at 14...
It looks nice, but some of the textures need to contrast more.

My screen is already adjusted to provide the best light level for any normal images; most things that appear too dark to most people to see anything appear quite clearly to me. However, these screenshots are amazingly dark; even I have difficulty seeing anything! Please change the lighting, so that the rest of Massassi won't have to appear to glow in order to see your screens dimly lit.

Um, nice torches.
2004-11-13, 10:50 AM #10
It's funny how everytime someone posts screens of an area that isn't completely bright everybody starts complaining... Are all massassians scared of the dark or something?

I have the cheapest 19" monitor I could find and I can see everything just fine with brightness only halfway (on my default setting).

I love all the details and the arches. But as MBeggar suggested, some more variation in textures might be welcome.

edit:

I cut out the hud and weapon and did a colour count, I got to a nice 300+ unique colours in the first screenshot. Now if you see nothing it means that either:
a) the sun is shining directly on your screen or the room you're in is very bright.
b) your screen is really bad and or small and or very far away
c) you have poor eyes.

If you ask me...

I can see every little detail in those pics just fine :\

If anyone ever calls my work too dark again, I'll just refer you to this.

From what little I could make out, I must say it looks interesting.

yeah... i shall answer most quisitons...

I want to have more variety in textures, but i suck at making textures myself, and i just cant find a good neo-gothic styled texture set...

I will brighten up the level a bit... With some thorches, and other places to get logical light from. But mainly, it has to have a dark atmosphere.

I am going to add torches to the level, and all those croses on the wall needs to be windows. But...they are hard to make (i am modeling anyway to try to get at least some decent ones)

Then finally, i am going to add some details...And if it is posible, i am trying to make a fitting storyline.

The meaning of this level is to be a SP level, because i think there are too much MP levels and too less SP levels.

Haha, you know what's funny? As soon as I saw the first picture, I thought "Wow, that's cool, but I bet all the replies are going to be complaining that it's 'too dark' ". Seriously, this looks good how it is (although more contrast might be nice). Kinda reminds me of Moria actually.

I'm @ work here with a 15" LCD and I can't see a damned thing. Both brightness and contrast are at 100 (highest).
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

My brightness and contrast are at FULL. -_-

Yes, and one SERIOUISLY bad jpeg compression. Looks intriguing though (and personally, I can see it just fine). Personally, I'd like to get a look at that map, so if you're willing, would you mind sending a copy of it my way? (all i want is a PK3 with the BSP file and textures)

NOW PLEASE STOP COMPLEANING ABOUT THE BRIGHTNESS!
I am going to change it and screenies will be posted soon. WITH better lightning, so if you cant see a thing...please dont post anything allright. Forsahken, i shall send you a bsp, BTW textures are standard Yavin textures so you dont need them

Much much better. Add more rooms!

Maybe some sort of water feature under a grill in the center of that room?
"Whats that for?" "Thats the machine that goes 'ping'" PING!
Q. How many testers does it take to change a light bulb?
A. We just noticed the room was dark; we don't actually fix the problems.

Casper actually said what I wanted to say. O.o

Also, I think I have a very similar map somewhere, although for DooM 3.. hmpf.

Great job. :)

I didn't have trouble seeing the first shots, but I do think it looks better lit up like that. We can actually see the crosses and the nice details.

Woo, I can see it! Nice work, although some texture variation would be nice. :)

Previously, I couldn't see anything but a few details (suc has the collumns) in the first shots, even though I was viewing things on a rather bright 17" CRT, with 100% brightness and contrast, and it was the middle of the night, and the monitor was the only light in the room. Now, I can see it clearly, and I must say: I am impressed. You didn't spare any section from having incredible detail... You have easily put LEC's work with JO and JA to shame. Might I reccomend actually considering making this into a full level? Maybe not an arcitecure-focused MP level, but since you're doing this for a backdrop for cinematic scripting, perhaps a epic SP level that's full of scripted cutscenes?

thanks man...all of you...

I am sorry gothicx that i maybe stole one of your ideas...But dont even try to publish it sooner then my level :D,

And nottheking, what are LEC's? :o

I am still inproving. But i have still some troubles with cutscene's, like camera's. And i need some voice actors. I prefer someone with a dark (or cna pretend) and low voice.

What iwas trying to make was a level. With beautiful architecture. Beautiful cutscene's and beautiful characters and lots of puzzels. But you all know. Maybe i am good in mapping. But i suck at photoshopping, scripting and making good puzzels

Can't really steal an idea that's already ripped from the greek/gothic era. :p
Also, I no longer map, so you'll publish it sooner than me

That would be Lucasarts Entertainment Company, but now that I think of it, it was Raven that did JO and JA... My mistake. you put Raven's work to shame.

Oh no, i dont put raven's work to shame...BTW, i am now only concentrating on boobytraps that wont do any damage :p, (does someone knows how you let doors do damage in JA because the crusher option dont work anymore) but if this thread somehow dies, i will post some new screenies soon!

Believe me; your arcitecctural work has put Raven's arcitecture to shame. To compare, load up a basic raven-made JO or JA level, and look arround. Activate wreframe mode, and take ascreenshot. Then, take a screenshot of your own work here in wireframe mode. Note how much more detailed your map here is.
