Alright, gang. I'm working on a maze level. However, I'm using something new that I've NEVER seen done by ANYBODY in any JK levels. It's a very good, very clever illusion. The illision so far works perfectly with just one person in the level, which is where you guys come in. I need a few beta testers to help me test this. I'll be on AIM for a few hours after this post, my screenname is TubularJoe, so send my a message and I'll send you the GOB file. PLEASE NOTE: I cannot host games due to firewall technicalities. So, if you want to help, you'll have to host the game via IP.

I plan on posting screenshots soon. Thank-you.

1) Frankly, mazes suck. Especially in FPSs.
2) Don't post in showcase if you're not going to showcase anything.

Mazes are cool if you are being chased by a horrendous monster and the way out is packed with deadly traps.

The only reason why you think mazes suck is because you can never find your way through one. Or maybe it's because the ones that you've played haven't been challenging enough. Or perhaps it was challenging but offered no reward. Don't look so harshly on something that has the potential to be great.

Also, if you had completly read the first post I made, you would have known that I AM going to post screenshots! I first needed beta testers. Then if it needed changes, I would've posted screens of the changed level. If it didn't need changes, I would've posted screens of the original level. As it stands now, we were unable to test it last night because everyone that could host was having computer problems. So once it gets tested, you will have your d#$% screenshots. Until then, sit tight!

I hope that was sarcastic, Trige has been here a while...

Oh, and I'd beta but JK doesn't work so well with my router.
2004-11-29, 1:43 PM #13
Yeah, I have the JK and router problem too. It sucks. But, I hope to get a laptop soon with wirless internet (something cheap that I can do coding or schoolwork on or play old games with). While I'm posting, I figured I'd let you guys interact. What do want to see in a maze? Just spill some ideas (you'll get credit if this gets released). Or, if you want to make it yourself and send it to me, feel free to. I'm using the 3rd palet in the list. I believe it's the house palet.

Trige, you know better. Post showcases to showcase. This belongs in the editor's forum until you actually have shots.

Alright, for those of you who cannot wait...

This is where you start off. You are dropped from nowhere into the unknown.

Here's where the fun begins, right from the start of the level!
You can try to slash the grate, but it won't slash!

And here's where the illusion takes place. According to the map, you're in the same place and it's the exact same grate. Only now, you can slash it. This is not a duplicate sector below or above the previous one, and there is no cog that prevents you from slashing the grate. So what is it?

This section can be reached if you can make it past the first stage of the maze. But beware, it's dangerous down here!

And once you think you've reached the end, the tables have turned (atleast the level has)! Now you have to go through the first part of the level again, only with limited light and on its side. Watch your step, our you may plumit to your death! [http://www.massassi.net/ec/images/15273.jpg]

You enter the maze through a coffin-shaped hallway, this signifies that if you be cautious, you can survive. Then, when you go through the first part on its side, you fall into the coffin. This signifies that the heat has been turned up, watch your step and think before you do anything!

the reason mazes suck in fps would be due to the fact that mazes create dead-ends. dead-ends kill the flow in a map, and curtail gameplay.

Well if it's more some creepy labrynth like that one episode of the Batman cartoon and less like a deathmatch, then it's good.

Imight be willing to test it, but for some reason, my computer refuses to allow other computers to join any game it hosts... That's just how it is. You level looks rather promising, and now I can see that by "maze," you're not referring to some huge, bland, tangle of square passages, but arcitecturally detailed and diverse areas arranged in an interesting (as well as possibly frustrating) method.

You need to get a new lava texture. Aso, you should get more grey/black rock texture for the hell floor.

If you want me to host the level pack so people may beta test it, email it to me (webmaster aaattt sorrowind.net).

I'll put up a link here (or email you back, whichever you perfer).

That is, if you want to :D

You can host it if you want matty, but the problems are that I'm still adding to it, so you'd need to update it from time to time, and also it's all one big level instead of a level pack. As for the lava texture, I'm trying to use LEC textures mainly. Using custom 16-bits usually increases the file size quickly. So for now, I'm just gonna try to avoid it.

some of us prefer not to get hit with random spam-bot; they can pick up an E-mail adress that's simply left "lying about" on a freely acessable forum page.
