This is a school project that I'm working on, and its supposed to be a liquor advertisement. It's currently a WIP, but heres what I have so far.

(I made a jpg out of the pdf in Acrobat, and the quality is less than perfect due to jpg compression. The actual pdf is razor sharp)

software used: Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Wings 3d, Bryce 5.

The bottle was built in wings and rendered in bryce. It took forever to get the lighting right.

I think you should take out the "Filtered 20 times" part, mention it's filtered but that doesn't cut it.

Honestly- The only thing about the design I like is some of the layout.

The name, bottle, and hammer and sickle are placed decently. I do not like how there is just a white bar across the top.
The Title of the Vodka is just not right. It really doesnt look cyrillic to me. find something more like this:

I think the font you used had too many curves.
I have no complaints about the bottle at this point.
The Hammer and Sickle were done in Illustrator I assume? If so, go back in and touch up some of those curves. If you give it a little more work I think it will look much better.
The background really doesn't fit. At this point im not sure what would look better. Maybe just a simple gradient.
The colors though definatley should be changed. When I think Russia, I think Reds. Blue doesnt fit my mind when Chernobyl is brought up. I could see how you did pick the blue-Cold; smooth- but I think Red would work better.
Red: Melt down, strong, USSR.
There are much more things you could tie that colour to.

comment: kinda messy for being so large (I guess that was explained). But the bottle tip loses a lot of detail for some reason, looks low poly. Also consider getting rid of the blue wood grain look, a solid color would probably be more effective.

I agree with those who have problems accepting the background. You might not want to have nuclear wasteland in the background, but I think some photoshopped real-life, photo based background might be good.

I've made the background more abstract, swapped the blue colour scheme for red, and this is what I have so far:

I added two metal beams w/ rivets on the side, and i think they add a lot to it b/c they give it a heavy soviet-era look. However, should i make it dirty-looking (like the ones on the left) or clean and new, like the ones on the right?

Also, I would swap the font for a more cryllic font, if i have one that could still be read like English instead of being genuine cryllic. (kind of like those fonts that look like Chinese/Japanese characters but are still english letters). If any one here has such a font, could they please attatch it? Thanks.

For the font- look for something that feels strong, it doesnt have to be a Cyrillic type.
The red is getting there, but I think you need more Red rather than a soft red.

I still dont like the bar with the information across the top of it.

Judging by the name; I'd say the contents of the bottle should be glowing blue-green.

Heck, this stuff (well, vodka in general) is probably what caused the Chernobyl disaster in the first place.

I still need feedback about the rivet things on the sides. Should I go with the rusty look or the clean look?

Rivets should go, bars should stay. As well, nuke the text on the top of the image, and replace it with a block of text in the bottom right.

No, he's right. The bar across the top shouldnt be there. It doesnt fit and it looks ugly.

More changes:

-fixed white bar, made it red to blend more
-I fixed the font. I found a font that looks vaguely like cryllic when you try to read it normally (read it backwards!)

The new font sucks. Just switch to a real cyrillic font. Writing something backwards doesn't make it Russian...
The background is better, my suggestion would be to find a photo of the surrounding of chernobyl (the plant, deserted cities, nature) and either put that as a partially transparent layer to the background. Or simplify (cartoonize) it so it's more of an icon.

Even if i used a real cryllic font, I wouldn't be able to read it and i doubt anyone that would be looking at it would be able to, either, so what's the point?

I'm thinking of switching back to the original font. I tried a regular serif font, and it looked too boring.

The font sucks. The background sucks. The bars suck. The rivits suck. The text bar at the top sucks.

You dont need to use Cyrillic, just use something similar to it!

I'm not saying you have to use them, but just go for that big and strong feel to it.
The font you are using now would probably fit a wine better.

That's funny, I recall the day not too long ago when your custom title said "Loved by Many" and now it says "A Big Member." The new title seems very applicable at the moment.

Change the background to look like the old USSR flag

I think putting "ВОДКА" on the bottle is a good idea.
