These were some clouds that I shot right before sunset right outside my window about 2 days ago, the night before we had one of the worst rainstorms of the year. It knocked out the power and drove sheets of rain right under my front door. Out here in So. Cali, we don't really know what rain is (compared to the rest of the people in the country, so this was bad by our standards)

I personally love how the light catches in the top layers of the cloud and is almost totally black underneath. (It was near dusk, so the shot was overexposed and the flash is damn near useless when I'm trying to shoot clouds.)

The contrast wasn't this good in real life, but I liked how the photo came out, so i decided to keep it.

Comments are welcome. I took some other shots, I should have them ready to post sometime tommorrow.

Beautiful photo.

My eyes don't seem to know where to focus though, the contrast between the dark clouds and the vibrant ones confuses my eyes, but looks great. Almost looks like smoke from a fire.

I really like the picture, but something bothers me. I think the trees at the bottom need to be adjusted somehow... maybe making them more black.
Another thing I think I see: Was the sharpening applied by the camera or by you?
Usually you get the best results if you set the camera to not apply any adjustments whatsoever to the photo so that when you get it in photoshop you can tweak even the smallest things (sharpness and stuff)

The camera has an autofocus feature, but not an autosharpening feature. I'll see how to turn it off in the manual. I hardly retouched it at all in photoshop.

Try shooting in RAW mode if you can. that should turn off any camera adjustments...

Excellent. It's supposed to be raining tomorrow. Although from what I saw, it looks like it rained up there in Long Beach. So you should still have a good suply of cumulonimbus clouds.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.
