This is for an assignment i'm working on at university.

http://www.eng.nene.ac.uk/~bf04thbu/

The pages dont all work yet, and the content isnt complete but it's the design I want feedback on.

It's all done in css so if you disable css for the page it will still display all the content and keep everything nice :) click here if you cant turn off css in your browser to see the result.

p.s. It validates with XHTML1.0 Strict :)

Comments, suggestions?

I don't like the hard line between the top image and what's below, really.

I'd get rid of the dotted line, as well as the fade effect on the bottom of the image. Besides that, it's not bad. The colors are a bit dull. Why are you not using an external CSS file?

Same.

I like how you used a fluid design (your content scales with the window) which is a quality that my designs sometimes lack.

Thanks. I wasnt using an external stylesheet because i find it easier to edit when it's all in one file. Once i've finshed adding content (and extra css) i'll make it an external file. I have toned down the fade on the bottom border because it was too much.

Yeah the colours are dull but the site doesnt need to be the most exciting in the world it just needs to be valid :p I can easily change the colours if i want to I have the psd saved with the silices.

Thanks, making pages stretch to fill the width of the browser is something I make sure every site I design do. Using 1600x1200 I know how annoying it is to see huge gaps on either side of the content.

Increasing the fontsize lets the menu disappear behind the content, in firefox

You browse in 1600x1200 with maximized windows? Really?

Yes. Why? Something wrong with that?

Well, of course not. But usually people use higher resolutions, because they need the extra workspace. But yeah, if you like huge planes of solid color (if the webdesigner used fixed size) or single-line texts (if the webdesigner made a fluid design), that's fine.

Higher resolutions I find more useful for single programs such as Photoshop or Radiant, I usually don't find it useful to work with several windows at once. I usually like fullscreen...

I like fullscreen browser windows because I can fit more text on the screen at a time so I dont have to constantly scroll :p
