UJS v0.09
2005-01-21, 2:42 PM #1
... Or 0.1 beta. I decided to just call it 0.09 so it would be easier on the automatic updater, which should work when I release 0.1 final! :D

Here it is:

http://junk.mzzt.net/ujs_install.exe

If you don't know what UJS is go here: http://www.mzzt.net/ujshelp/

There are both offline and online manuals but neither are anywhere near finished.

Requirements:
  • One of those computer thingies with Windows.
  • One or more of the following: Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Mysteries of the Sith, Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy.
  • .NET Framework 1.1 or higher. Unknown whether it works with 1.0... if you use 1.0 and run into problems, upgrade to 1.1 first.
  • Internet connection required for updater.

Known Bugs:
  • Graphical glitches, especially relating to XP themed windows. Fix: Ignore them.
  • Slow resizing when using a background. Fix: Resize once to a good size or turn off backgrounds through the Options menu.
  • If the parent window isn't active when a new window is positioned with CenterParent, it'll end up at 0, 0. Fix: Don't minimize the window when you're doing stuff in it. :p
  • When adding a JK (or maybe other type of) mod via drag/drop UJS crashes after the file is copied. Appears to be a .NET bug related to the "Is it a Dark Forces or Jedi Knight GOB?" form that appears. If the form variable is declared (not displayed) the crash will occur after the dragdrop function returns. If it is not declared it will not crash. The form does not do anything special when it is created. Drag and drop has been disabled until a .NET version is released which fixes this issue. Fix: Yell at MS. Then use the Add Patch button on the toolbar to install new patches.
  • Systray icon will not disappear after UJS closes after update, because the form can't "see' the systray icon variable to hide it. Fix: Wave the mouse over the icon to make it go away. Really.
  • Updater sometimes will grab a cached record of the newest version info, possibly giving you the wrong latest version and downloading a wrong file. Fix: Load http://www.mzzt.net/update/uberjedisuite.update in your primary browser (for some reason IE didn't work for me, but when I used Firefox it worked?!?! strange) and refresh. Then go back and try the updater again.

Post bug reports, screenshots showing your intense mod collection, etc.

[Edit: If you haven't figured it out yet, I like polls.]

What does this program do with JO/JA? Does it manage .pk3 files?

Fixed the link.

For JO/JA it treats each directory in GameData (except base) with at least one pk3 file in it as a mod, as JO/JA does.

Like JO/JA, if there is a description.txt file, it will read a couple-word title for the mod from there.

JO/JA support was mainly added so you could have all your games in one place. As well, some mods (the 2nd Dark Forces demo) have opening sequences that cannot be seen if you apply the mod in-game.

I FIND BUG
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Fixed: Exception thrown if Jedi Knight / MotS directory did not have \jkpatch\active subdirectories. Redownload or use the updater if you have this problem.

You have the .NET framework installed? I suspect the case is that you don't.

Yeah. You can check if you have it installed by going to Windows Upate. Go to custom install, and look under the optional installs. If .NET is in the list, you don't have it. Add it to the list and install if you have the time and bandwidth to do so. :)

Ooh... I think I'll have the next version of the installer check to see if you have the .NET framework.

Gah! .NET FWork thing says I need to increase registry max size.

I've gotta give my comp a fresh install of windows anyway. when I, or rather my dad, eventually gets around to it (I say my dad because I don't want to screw up someting like NIS b/c that things a b**** to us).

I'll install UJS then, when everything will be bound to install and run w/o problems, not to mention my comp runs horridly slow right now and a fresh install should fix that.

Fixed: Tweaked the installer, now it checks for the .NET Framework and will not run if it is not installed. It also skips the components screen, which only had one item on it anyways.

It is required to run any programs that were made for .NET with Visual Studio 2003/2005.

You can download the .NET Framework 1.1 from Windows Update or from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=262d25e3-f589-4842-8157-034d1e7cf3a3&displaylang=en

Also I see alot of people voting but not telling me what their problems are. If you run into a bug let me know and I'll fix it! :)
