Tdir Character models

I finished off the characters for TDIR 1.2 recently, so here they all are! I've shown some of these before.

Not pointy so much as curved too much upward.

Noses are up too high, but other than that, only one problem:

Why does Yamcha's and Gohan's hair look EXACTLY alike except for one strand sticking out? :p
2005-02-01, 5:17 PM #6
Vegeta's nose is perfect however.
Bassoon, n. A brazen instrument into which a fool blows out his brains.

Sweet stuff. I think the noses are meant to be pointy, they are in the show.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.
2005-02-01, 6:22 PM #8
They all look drawn. Lovelly.

Vegita's hands look a tad to smooth-3Dish as far as textures go with the rest of the model.

Otherwise, I'd really like to see some of the other characters still, if possible. Tein, Mr. PoPo, The chubby android, cell, freiza, a sayan monkey, some of the DB characters, and the SSJ4.

And good god, let's see an extendo stick and a nimbus.

Yes, pointy, but not bent upward at that slope if I recall.

They all need bottom lips. Why do they not have them? :(

The models are sexy as hell, that's my only complaint.
Think while it's still legal.
2005-02-01, 7:14 PM #11
uh... yeah they do... see those divits above their chin? yeah that outlines the bottom lip.

never really liked the show, but those are some very nice looking models.
2005-02-01, 7:23 PM #12
The faces don't look very accurate to the show, same with some of the Hairs. If you want some really good critisism when it comes to DBZ related work, you should show your models on the Saviors of Strength or Zeq2 forums.

[EDIT]
Also, DBZ anatomy shows that the elbos should be at the weist line, where the models' arms are to long.
2005-02-01, 7:42 PM #13
Cazor, look at them from the side. They have an insane overbite.
Bassoon, n. A brazen instrument into which a fool blows out his brains.
2005-02-01, 8:00 PM #14
people with overbites still have bottom lips, though... just less visible ones. you can still see a bump and the shadow for the lower lip, either way.
2005-02-01, 8:44 PM #15
I believe the real problem with the noses is that they're flat. The one which seems to look right is Vegeta. My same comment about the muscles. Biceps being concave and whatnot. Change Yamcha or Gohan. They aren't exactly the same. I'd probably say Gohan looks off myself. Speaking of that head, the brow looks odd. It's really noticeable in the Yamcha angle pic. Looks like he has a tumor or something. As was also mentioned, modify the hair for Vegeta SS and Gohan SS. It changes with each transformation, not just color. It kinda clumps together and straightens more.

Alright, seriously, guys, who the hell here is going to play this game and take the time to notice an overbite? Or a pointy nose? The odds are you won't even get close enough to the enemy to see there face because they'll be ready to launch a Big Bang or Kamehameha at you. The models look great, even if there is some minor facial errors.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.
2005-02-01, 8:59 PM #17
Uh yeah, that's a given. We're just trying to help as much as possible...if he doesn't care then he doesn't have to make the changes. It's not like we're going "BWAHAHA OVERBITE LEARN TO MODEL YOU DICK."

It's called critique. Any artist serious about what he does listens to it, because it's helpful. I'm sure shred doesn't mind at all, as long as it's not insulting and stupid critique like "umm your model is too green it sucks"

The only models that seem to have the "problem" are the Gohan and Yamcha models. That's mainly cause they both use almost the same face with minor differences (scars, hair combed differently)
I can't think of anything to put here right now.
2005-02-02, 12:44 AM #20
I agree that they could use more of a bottom lip, and you need to cut off that bulging forehead of Yamcha's. Vegeta's hair should be a little more solid, too.

I would have said that Shred's models make Ruthven's look like the work of a beginner. But each to their own I suppose.

Jeez...that was extremely harsh.

If anything Shred if a little better then Ruthven. To say he makes Ruthven look like a beginner is just stupid.

Just keep going, Shred ;)!

Btw, I actually agree with that Yamcha and Gohan stuff... Fix it... Or else (:p)...

I think it's saying how good Aaron is, and just how great Shred is. They're both fantastic, but it's undeniable that Shred's talents are magnificent.

This board must require the use of smilies. :p At times, reading minor complaint after minor complaint can add up to some misleading "overheating" if you will. :o

Awesome work Shred. :D Hopefully JK won't crap out with all those Vegeta nodes, and with fingers and hair nodes.

As for release, when 1.2 coding is complete.* :p

You have to keep in mind that Ruthven specializes in weapon modeling, and Shred in characters. Thats an unfair judgement, and harsh statement.

It was merely an opinion, blunt maybe but still just an opinion. it was a response to the idea that Shred is competition to Ruthven when Shred has been around and modelling for longer. Shred's models also generally look crisper and better defined.

Not to dis the work or anything, but if your looking for accuracy, thats a bit untrue. A more accurate version of how Goku looks has been modeled by Anime Award winner, NeD:

Like I said, not to dis any of the work, but theres alot of things that should be fixed, many of which I've mentioned.

[EDIT]
P.s: Can't wait till TDIR 1.2
2005-02-05, 1:04 AM #35
I don't think that looks any more accurate than Shred's version. On the contrary.

And why are there three identical images in there?

Thats the way NeD likes to do his renders, don't ask me :/

As for telling the difference, Its clearly obvious. Look closer, you shouldn't have to but if you havn't noticed 5 differences, AT LEAST, then....... :/

Well, this thread is..interesting.

About the model crits:

The pronounced forehead looks a little funky that close, but it provides extra model definition at regular viewing angle.

I give on the arm length, however, sectional models demand a little more to work with or it looks funky.

Looks like everyone is an expert on the show  Yes, the noses are upturned (not that much, look at the side view) thats the way it is. Yes, vegetas is different - thats part of what makes him vegeta. That and the hairline. The overbite is there in the show, its definately a part of the "dbz style," weather people realize it or not.

Gohan is drawn exactly the same as yamcha, except for the hair peice and the scars, thats just the way it is.

[rant]
Excuse me while I don't take crits from other dbz mods :p I've remodelled these characters a rediculous amount of times over the years, and I think I've hit upon the look that other mods lack. To me these look more accurate than any other dbz models I've seen. Maybe I'm biased, but whatever. Remember when the bfp models were soo accurate? please. With my models you can remove the hair and still tell what character it is.[/rant]

Heh, yes someone usually has to refer back to sos. I'll just say this: He more than likely doesnt render the side view because the character doesnt look correct from the side.

That, and thats clearly based on a younger goku, while mine is based on an older one from later in dbz, when the art was more streamlined and characters actually stayed on model during the show.
