Some updates on "The Maze". I've decided to include riddles to help players find their way through the maze, and locate secrets (obviously the riddles for the secrets require more effort to solve). I've recently been recruited by the SM clan, so one section (a graveyard) will display the names of all of the members of the clan. Enjoy and any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated.

This area is the "safe" zone of the maze. It is a secret location that branches off to other secret locations.

This is the Gallery of Sins. Once all of the sins are lit, the players gain access to yet another secret location. Individual sins are spread all over the maze, and activating them lights them up in the Gallery of sins. Find and activate them all!

Watch your step. This is the bottomless pit (and it works, too).

This is the Sith Mercenaries graveyard. Obviously the tombstones are still being made, so have patience for the dead.

Here is the Tomb of the Creator. An homage to the one who built the insane maze, which will also hold the key to escaping the maze. The statue 3DO is temporary and will be replaced.

Your talent is budding Trige, and I like where this is going! I am also very impressed by the excellent usage of default JK textures, it takes skill to make them fit a custom level. The waterfall is also nice.

I might suggest adding some more plants to that first pic to spruce it up a bit. It looks like you have the beginnings of a Japanese garden or osmething, and that would be a nice path to follow imho.

The colors are all so muted. It isn't dark, it isn't light, it's... dim.

well it doesn't really look like he's added much lighting effects yet, so i wouldn't comment on that so soon.

Clans suck imo. I sure won't remember any of the tombstone names while playing...

The SM clan produced some of the best levels however, Espescially SM_Sith_lord ;)

<3 Purgatory and SMHQ.

This looks VERY promising. I can't wait for it to be released.

is this MP or SP? Apologies if I overlooked the answer somewhere.

Regardless, make it huge and intricate and awesome, so that months after it is released people will be like... "hey, look wtf I found in the maze" and it'll lead to more people finding even more random secrets and areas etc.

:D

I want to have it like that opus, but the problem is that people have the ability to look at it in JED. Now, I've made it so that in areas it is very hard to find your way through them in game as well as in JED because I've overlapped duplicate sectors. I'm also thinking of hiding sectors in JED way far away from the main sectors and surrounded by black textured sectors so it will be hard to find them on grid and in 3D preview.

Hmm, judging by your change of Title, I gather that you've been inducted into the clan? If so, congratulations! :D

That I have, and thank-you! As for type of level, I was initially going for SP, but I find that levels you can play with others are more enjoyable most of the time. So, I decided to make it MP with a SP feel to it. I think it will work fine for a maze.

Some UPDATES! Alright, I've added the exit to the maze. However, there's so many sectors or something in this section that I get horrible HOM when I try to look at all of it in game, so that will need to be fixed. Here are some shots...

There will be a teleport at the top of the stairs that will end the level when a player enters it, and then things will move to the second episode.

To be frank, you must have had some pretty inefficient cleaves to get HOM that bad, when the room you're showing me doesn't look all that detailed at all. It looks good, I just mean it's not exactly archi intensive. It is possible that something other than the visible adjoin limit is causing this, most likely an error. Here's my list of solutions in the order they should be tried:

1) Check your consistency checker. If there's an error on there, post it here and hopefully people can help you work out a solution.

2) If your consistency checker is clean, this is probably your best solution. Make the steps and anything else possible a 3do. This will avoid HOM and minimize the number of surfaces, to which there is a limit (and since your level looks like it is GIGANTIC, you might want to keep this in mind). If you need any help converting the archi to 3dos, just say. If you don't want to recreate the entire area, consider option 3.

3) Download the adjoin remover patch for JK by HellRaiser's friend. The downside to this is that the person playing your level will have to have the patch in order to prevent the same problem occurring for them.

I'm sure there are other solutions, but these seem to be the best ones short of rebuilding the whole area all over again from scratch. Hope this helps, just say if it doesn't.

I checked for errors, and there aren't any. So I have no clue what's going on there.

Count all of the sectors in that area. If the number exceeds about 120, then that should be what is causing the HOM.

240+ sectors in that area. There's lots of curves in it, so that leads to the high amount of sectors. Now then, how can I fix this without going 3DO?

Alright, I've found the patch. I guess I'm going to have to just refer to the patch when the level is released unless there's some other way to fix it. Thanks for the help guys.

Or you could always just include the patch with the download. It will save the user some hassle, and it's hardly large in filesize. That's what I'm planning on doing with my level. :)

Completelly OK. Trust me, that's it's intended purpose. Just make sure you include a readme which tells which version of the patcher it is, and who made it, etc.

Wow, if that's your first ever plant, I'm highly impressed!

Seriously, that's a great little plant, now if you can just work your way up to something bigger, you'll be set. Contact Friend14 though, he's an organic architect extraordinaire. Some of the best natural terrain ever done in JK was created by him. If you need help finding him, just ask me. ;)

Also, might I suggest you put those plamts on the water, since they look so much like water lilies. If you're worried about the plants preventing the player from swimming or letting the player walk on them or something stupid like that, just set their parent templates to "ghost structure" and the player will pass right through them. You could perhaps use a cog to make them float around on the surface as well, it would be very easy to do, but it would make the level look really life-like! :)

Good luck!

Alright, so I plan on releasing this sometime in mid March at the latest. All I have left is cogging and fine-tuning the level. Sometime before that, I'll probably have a beta test just to make sure it works on various systems and multiplayer. So, if any of you would like to beta, the first 10 people that say they want it will get the chance.

From the linked page (entrance page), click enter the site. Then, on the left-hand side of the screen, there's a menu titled Jedi Knight. Click AoT Production under that. This doesn't really show much, but there is also a non-official beta of AoT on the site as well. You can find that and other SM levels here.

Alright, once I get a working cog and implement it into the level, I'll have a beta to be tested. The people that I've heard from will have it e-mailed to them soon after, and I'll expect a full report (on things both good and bad). Thanks for your patience

Ask Sith_Lord what's going on with completing SM_HQ
"Jayne, this is something the Captain has to do for himself"

"N-No it's not!"

"Oh."
2005-02-26, 9:15 AM #39
As far as I know, SM_HQ is as complete as it's going to get. I know that SithLord is putting a lot of work into AoT, so that leaves very little time for him to work on other things. SM_HQ has been out for a while now, so if anything else is going to be done with it, it will probably be a Special Edition. But IF that happens, I don't see it happening for a long time.
