While digital art isn't really my thing; I prefer pencil and paper. I do think it is good to extend the boundries of my abilities. So I decided to take a little shot at digital art. The drawing below was made fully in Paint Shop Pro. It isn't finished yet, there'll be a planet in the picture eventually, this is just the background. It's inspired by the Interlude of the book I'm writing. But let's not spoil that story.

Comments and suggestions are welcome. The whole thing of making something from scratch in PSP is a bit new to me, so I bet there's tons of things I could improve upon.

[note it's a WIP]

It's like a photograph of a horizon. A pretty one, but it still needs a subject and preferably some depth (foreground, midground, background).
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Yes, that's where the planet will come to play. I might add a spaceship too, but I'll have to see how it turns out first.

Not completely content about it yet :\
The planet looks rather dull and generic.

Any idea is welcome.

The planet is supposed to be covered in an indigo-violet artificial shield, which emmits light (and heat). The (impenetrable) shield protects the world and is the key factor to the little ecosystem on it.

I'd suggest lowering the opacity of the cracks, they really stand out this way.

Ok, lightened it a bit and also made the planet a bit smaller.

THe planet looks very much like it was copy/pasted just splat right there. That is because it's fully lit, while very possible, just looks silly in your pic imo.

Also, not to berate your picture or anything...but space-art is very common these days. That being said, this could be a great image as long as you can add something "fresh" or "interesting", because honestly...I've seen 300million images exactly like yours. Try a nebula, blackhole, weird space-lightning or something...make something up! Just make it interesting to look at :)

This was meant purely as critical analysis and was not meant in any way to be taken as a personal insult. Anyone that has a problem with my comment can lick my butt.

<Anovis> mmmm I wanna lick your wet, Mentis.
