Here's my draft for the story of my one single standalone RoX MP finale:

Quote:
Long, long ago, while the ancient Council yet ushered in an age scholars merit with order and prosperity, there existed a remote land that knew neither. Xanthus, as it is called to this day, was a land smothered in eternal night. A necromancer of unspeakable evil, known only as the Underlord for his subterranean lair, enthralled a populace who withered and died by his black magic just like their starving crops. He killed only to raise as minions from the dead, so that all Xanthus might be employed in the exploitation of an ebony fluid that fueled his immortality.

Entire armies fell before his might, and the lords of Xanthus fled into the countryside. When all seemed lost, they at last petitioned the Council for an intervention it was all too willing to provide. Armed with spellbound blades, the brothers Solarian and Sarithel, heroes of the Council, ventured forth and ultimately slew he whose armor could be pierced by no other blades.

As they could find no other means to destroy the defeated corpse, they drained his pool of power and entombed him deep beneath the surface. They sealed the doors of the bowels of his fortress with a timeless curse so that none might ever take his place.

By then, however, the last of the lords of Xanthus had vanished into obscurity, and the Council divided the land fairly between the two brothers. Their sanctified blades were symbolically handed down from father to son until the day came when a dispute over the deliverer of the fatal blow brought war to the provinces. In the twilight of the Consular Era, much in keeping with the blindness of that age, the victorious Sons of Sarithel shattered their uncle’s blade and cast its pieces to the four winds.
Time passed until one fateful night, six hundred sixty-six years after the forgotten battle, the sun set and never returned. Though evil now terrorizes the land, the Blade of Sarithel lies locked in the deepest vault in the heart of the capital city. Baron Ulrich, leader of the land, has gone mad, but the councilors, vestiges of the dead empire, are gripped in political intrigue that distracts them from electing a successor to supplant the tyrannical lord protector.

Meanwhile, rumor has it that the Underlord has awakened and the source of his power flows freely behind doors that more protect than imprison him, now...

I'm planning on making a mouse-driven class selection system where you choose one of five starting classes from which, after completing certain requisites, you can advance to one of 13 other subclasses. The class tree is as follows:

Squire:
Though heavy in his hands, the Squire shows promise with a sword, and while only leather softens the wages of his trials, his dreams shine with steel.

Scholar:
A man of means, the Scholar is quick about his wits and attentive to his studies. Though above combat himself, his ambitions promise that he will not lack methods for fulfilling his wishes.

Craftsman:
Instead of yearning to destroy, the Craftsman strives to create. In building and repairing, he has learned much about shaping the world around him to suit his needs.

Scout:
Fast on his feet, but slow on his bow, the scout feels quite at home on the countryside and in the brush. Just like his wanderlust, his skills can take him many places, it's just for him to choose the right path.

Adept:
There's something different about the Adept. A certain energy that courses through his veins and electrifies the air around him. With training he can harness this energy, but will he use it for good, evil, or neither?

Each of the subclasses has an ultimate goal that will aid in defeating the Underlord. Not all are necessary, but some combination must work together in order to complete the main quest.

For instance, the Knight can fight the Underlord, but his weapons are useless, he stands no chance without some sort of protection, and he can't even get to his opponent without getting past the magically sealed door.
Cordially,
Lord Tiberius Grismath
