Open Invitation - Community Project
2005-04-29, 8:28 AM #1
This weekend and through next week, I'll be accepting applications for working on this community project. This is an open invitation for not only JK Editors but especially for JO/JA Editors who know how to use JED.

Basically, while I'm working on finishing up the exterior stuff, I need someone to start building the interior stuff. To do so, I would prefer a creative editor who is familier with building levels with brushes and can develop the interior of the island. It has 3 possible entrances and I'll give a 'Template Level' to the editor I choose to tackle this particular task. When I get ready for a new area, I'll choose a new editor to do that area, and so on. I'll give more specific instructions on how to create th levels as member are brought on to the project.

Here's a few ingame shots:

How many people participate will determine how large the level will be. I have designed it so that it can literally be as big and as vast as we can build it. It may even include a vast space area above the world! So please, all that are intrested, e-mail me at CaptBewil at yahoo dot com.

Critique on the screenshots are also welcomed. Please note, that the textures are temporary, as well as the light, etc. The detail is also lacking so I guess the only useful critique or suggestions right now would be on the idea itself.

I think it would be a better idea, if you split the island up into several sections. Editors could then build a section, and the people could vote which editor's version of a section makes it to the final level.

I would like there to be some element of surprise with the level. That said, there's plenty of room for expansion later. :)

The primary short-term goal is to get something playable and do it as quickly as possible. Will the quality suffer because it was rushed? Sure, but at least there will be a framework to improve on (and improving is what I'm good at).

I never realized how crappy the graphics in this game really are.

It would look a lot better with better textures.

Played around with the existing rock texture a little plus used Force Remap. Certainly nothing final, just messing around.

Well, that looks better, but the grass is much too big and blurry. Scale that sucka down, if you can.
DO NOT WANT.

That does look much better.

My tree template. It has several "joints" to allow easy manipulation to create a variety of trees of different sizes and stature:

Also, please note the texture quality and lighting of this tree.

*NOTE: This is without the smaller tree limb and leaves surfaces and textures.

Once it has some leaves, that tree template has the potential to be kick-***.
