I've been screwing around with ideas for a new design for my site IronBox.

Pretty good, I like it. Though you could change the rust a bit, it looks fake.

Other than that, good job.
You're gonna use this for Flash I presume?

1.) why does every use that effect on metal?? Have you ever seen metal? It's smooth...that looks more like grey wood

2.) i like the design, but the colors need alot of work. Perhaps a more rustish color scheme would work better. Either way you need to change the color of the title because there is hardly any contrast. Black text on dark grey bg == very bad.

Not all metal. I've seen pieces of metal with a finish like that before.

Yeah, a special form of brushed aluminium looks just like that.

Unless you bring it in contact with another metal. You'll get surface rust, then.
Anyway, the aluminium example was just given to prove that metal CAN look like that. And I don't think this special look is reserved for aluminium.
