Wow, I'm glad the wait paid off - I don't know how long you've been editing, but considering it's only a WIP, those pics are drool-worthy. I really think those are quite nice. The textures need work obviously, and some of the architecture is unrefeined, but that's still an awesome start and I would encourage you to finish this.

Wow, nice to see something like this for MotS, nothing quite like it has been made for a long time, even if it is based off of a movie/book. :)

What are some tips about the architecture
I have been editing since feb. 04
I am pretty new to this sort of stuff but I like it a lot
I am not too good with working with code as was displayed with my trouble in posting these pictures

The scale looks a tad off to me, you look troll size in that shot. Otherwise, NICE.

Nice, could use some new textures though. Don't forget to clutter it up with items, etc.

Well, to be more precise, you're off to a great start. It definately looks like Helm's Deep (at least, what I can remember from The Two Tower's when I saw it back in 2002), but some of the edges are a bit jagged and there's still room for more detail. For example in this shot:

If you look at the boxed area, those triangualr supports are too jagged and pointed to be stone. I reccommend you round them out a bit and make them more cylindrical. Just a suggestion, they're not bad as is, but I think they could look even better.

If you post some more shots, perhaps I can offer some more suggestions. THis really is some great work, and looks like it could be an immensely fun level to explore.

Wow, just over a year of editing, and you're already pumping out stuff like this? Be proud, I couldn't have made anything on this scale until I had at least a couple of years under my belt. For your information, I've been editing JK and MotS on and off since Feb. 2002.

I agree, there is nothing quite so enjoyable as making a good level! :D

No problem, I had the exact same problem with the [ img ] tags when I first posted on Massassi back in 2003. I still don't know COG (which is the scripting language which controls in-game actions in JK/MotS). Just curious though, how old are you?

Yes, as already stated, that stands for a "Work in Progress." Don't feel afraid to ask what these acronyms mean, Massassi has a slew of them, and I'm learning new ones every day. ;)

Well, if I can be of any more service in the future, just send me an email here, and I'll try and get back to you. School's almost over for me now. I'd also love to test your level at some point. Just post bakc here if you have any other questions. :)

Yes, perhaps you could post some of your reference pics that you were using to base this off. I'd be curious to see the comparisons.

I didn't really use reference pics. I watched the DVD and drew
these crude drawings. The dimensions are estimations based
on the fact that an average man will be about 6' tall and that
Kyle katarn (0.2 JKUs tall) would be about average. Then I
compared the height of the people in the movie with the
Fortress. This, of course, is not extremely accurate but it gets
the job done I suppose. I haven't figured out how to get a
screenshot off a DVD when running it on the computer so if any
of you do please tell me so I can post some of the shots I looked
at to make these drawings.

your DVD software may have a 'screen capture' feature, otherwise I suggest using Cyberlink's PowerDVD software, it has screencapture and just plain rocks for DVDs

It needs to look more massive. =D But you're well on the way though. Also some detailing will be very nice, as others mentioned.

Or quit trying to beat the system, and make it play along. Go into the media player's options, and turn off any hardware acceleration, along with anything related to overlays.

I may have. I have two plugins that deal with lightning but I like neither of them. I'll look into it and see if I have it and if not, I'll see if I like it.

What is the mip map distance. I made all these textures
on my own but appearantly I am not much good at it.
How would you suggest that I go about making my
tectures better?

Mip-maps are used when a texture is viewed from a far enough distance. This was used to increase the framerate on lower-end machines, but nowadays they aren't needed. Some .MAT programs make mipmaps automatically for you.

As for yuor textures, the cliff texture needs major work. It's easy to see texture misallignments, because of the other big problem which is it's STRIPED.

This is quite good as far as architecture goes. You will soon find that the archi is the hardest part so once you get to this point you aren't far off from making it really good.

Things to improve:

1.)Look around for better, more realistic textures. There are many many on the net. Use 16 bit mats if possible! It will improve your level astronomically

2.) Use a sprite for the fire and a 3do for the torch. You can either make these yourself or I'm sure you could get someone to help you with it. Look in the tutorials section for help with sprites

3.) Use 3dos to decorate the place., Right now it's too empty.

I used the fire sprite contained in the sprite tutorial but I
find the sprite to be too large and with bad resolution.
I want to make it smaller and I know it has something to
do with the below lines from the tutorial. Can you explain what
It means or at least how to make the sprite smaller.

Well, if it's like changing the size of textures in JED, under width and height, you'll want to increase the size of the number. So, where is says Width 0.12 and Height 0.12, you should try changing those to Width 2.0 and Height 2.0 (or any numbers that you deem fit depending on how small you want the sprite to be). You'll have to change the values and look at them in game to see which one fits best, though.
Who made you God to say "I'll take your life from you"?
