Complete Species Pack (WIP) for JA
2005-05-16, 8:54 PM #1
Alright folks, now that 'permission slips' have started rolling in, I can start showing off some screenies for my new all-in-one species pack:

First off, Naulotan Male (From Toonces' Kit Fisto model):
TO DO:
  • Finish the skin colors -- yeah, the colors control the skin pigment a la the Twi'lek
  • Re-rig the model for JA (though I don't know how, nor do I have 3DMax) It works in JA, but it has the typical JO bugs, plus there's a few clipping issues
  • Finish hunting down skinners for permissions
  • Icons

Secondly, the Mon Calimari Male (Model by Moooa) :
TO DO:
  • Get permission from Moooa
  • Icons
  • Re-rig model for JA
  • Note: I'm purposely leaving color selection out of this. I like it the way it is

Third Pic --- Just a reskin of the Alora2 torso redone for the Twi'lek Female:

Just so you know, Here's a list of features either currently in, WIP or To Be Done:
  • Colorpacks (max amount of colors) for each species, DONE except Twi'lek and Naulotan are WIP
  • 2 Bots per species WIP
  • 2 NPCs per species WIP
  • Hidden Sith skins for some species WIP
  • The ability to change clothing after each mission TBD (not hard, though)

Here's a list of species and current amount of new content for each one. Format is Species\# new heads\# new torsos\# new legs:
  • Human Male\12\1\1 (Hoth Gear)
  • Human Female\11\1\1 (Hoth Gear)
  • Chiss Female\3\7\6
  • Chiss Male\12\8\9
  • Rodian Male\3\1\1 (Hoth Gear)
  • Kel Dor Male\9\1\1 (Hoth Gear)
  • Zabrak Female\3\3\3 (one is Hoth Gear)
  • Twi'lek Female\0\3\2 (one is Hoth Gear)
  • Mon Calimari Male\8\8\N/A (Torso and Legs are combined)
  • Naulotan Male\6\7\N/A (Torso and Legs are combined)

Below is a list of possible additions to the current amount of species, time and permission pending (and whether I can get help re-rigging models):
  • Bothan Male/Female (rigged for JA, but crashed when jumping off Tauntaun on Hoth with a 'model overflow' or something) -- (permission pending)
  • Ithorian Male (permission pending)
  • Gran Male -- Bonus Character Only, unless I learn how to rig models, then I can add more torsos and stuff

Anyways, I'd really like some feedback on what you see, and if you need more screenies, just ask!

It's okay, cuz I just lost everything due to a curropted PK3 file. Oh well.

I like how I never lose work due to corrupted files or hard disk crashes, but everyone else seems to do so at the most inopportune time, and of course they don't have backups.

Just a thought.

You know, I was thinking the same thing. However, Episode 3 was amazing and prompted me to start over.

This time I can learn from my mistakes! First, nothing is going into PK3 until it's all finalized, and secondly, I'm using winrar w/no compression as a zip to PK3 it. That way I get no curroption.

I have already got the Mon Calamari going again. I love that model. Too bad I don't have anyone who can help me re-rig a few models for JA. Even still, the only bug is the left hand.

Use maximum compression, no reason not to. If it gets corrupted, that is why you have BACKUPS :P and always keep a project folder with all the stuff uncompressed in it too.

BTW My mini-rant wasn't directed at you specifically, I was actually reminded of other, less trustworthy people....

MON CALAMARI JEDI, OH YEAH!

If you want, dude, I can help you out with icons and any other art that wouldn't be too hard.

Here's a more pertinant(SP?) quesiton:

Why was Plo Koon flying Anakin's Jedi Starfighter from the first season of Clone Wars?! (Especially as Asajj completely and utterly destroyed it on Yavin IV)

Anyhow, back on topic, I am sending an email to Moooa today. I have the Mon Calamari skins going well, and icon work will begin when I get home tonight

I have also begun work on the Bothan. There's some part of the Bothan's mesh that crashes the game, because some skins work, and some skins don't. I think it is a bad poly on the beard, but I can just turn the surfaces off and still do multi-skins. The model is rigged for JA, so that's good, but unfortunately it doesn't have any mouth bones, so let's just say he'll speak telepathically. The Bothan has a female mesh, too, so that's great! Male/Female with only one model.

Will post more screenies when I get more to show, but for now, enjoy the screenies above.

it wasn't... it didn't have the modifications of anakins. it didn't have the big engines on the front, the dorsal fin, and the R2 unit wasn't in the center. it did have the same paintjob, though

I did read your post, actually. Things will move along quite well, however, as is. The only thing I could use is a reweighting of the JO models, but you need 3DSMax and experience to do that. Thanks for the offer, though. That was very kind.

Well, just to show that I've made progress since I've started over, here's the nearly completed Mon Calamari male. The character to the right is sporting the model's Hoth clothes. To the left you can see all the different combinations save the color change torsos.

Why not use the color slider that's in JA+?

Actually, I am. But, it's only for 2 of the torsos.

If I had multiple color selections in models I would make my mod have multiple color sliders (ala RGB sliders, not the default JA multiple color choice). More customizable that way.

2005-05-29, 3:30 PM #27
And have them for EVERY part of the body, not just a couple torsos.

@ ZZT -- It'll have the presets and RGB sliders, like in OJP.

@ Kirb -- I'm not a skinner. At best I can recolor and modify things, so what you see is really the best I can do. Trust me, it'll be nice.

But it's NOT a difficult task. It's not like you have to actually skin it. In fact it's easier. Just make one of the sections of each part 'colorized' so you can fix it with a slider.

Hey I have a question: In the PC version of JA, is it true there's just like 2-3 male human models, and there's no male human with black hair? Or can you choose more options?

(Not that I don't think this is fantastic work and a great project, but) Brian is to thank for that one. He's quicker than me during the week. When I posted on another thread earlier today, it was because I was checking to put up a new SotD. Brian's good..

In the way of updates: I finished the Mon Calamari Male a few nights ago, but took a bit of time off to make team skins and bot/npc support for this awesome Qui-Gon reskin of Quilan Vos. I love Aaron Smith's models, but man, this reskin of QG just takes the cake. Anyway. 1 species down. Next to get back to either the 1)Bothan 2)Naulotan or 3)Ithorian. What do you think?
