Siege on Castle Alaric (RoX MP)
2005-05-26, 6:47 PM #1
I took a short break from LoG to work on my other pet project, Rites of Xanthus Multiplayer. I'm currently working on the Co-op level 'Siege on Castle Alaric', which takes place shortly after Tahben heads through the region.

Granted, the campaign is nigh impossible for one player, but my poor Trollic shaman Boshren tried his best in order to give you all some screenshot goodness. :D

The evening before the assault, Boshren barged into the house of a local farmer who was probably rather annoyed by the intrusion of a big stinky troll on his property. Nevertheless, the farmer revealed some of the lay of the land in order to help upset the orcish stranglehold on the mountains outside Belport.

Finally, after hunting all night for access to Castle Alaric, staging ground for the orcish army, Boshren realized that perhaps the decision to storm the castle alone and without any diversion was a rash decision.

In the last few minutes of Boshren's life, he realized that he would not, in fact go down as the legendary mage who single-handedly defeated the orcish horde and reclaimed the castle of an ancient Lord of Xanthus, but instead was about to be perforated by a dozen arrows. Hopefully next time, he can round up some friends to join him and try again.

Yeah, join my Hamachi network and you'll get your wish. :p

Me and Ishi are on it and ready to play.

Anyone else (preferably people I have heard of :p) is invited too. Network name mzzt.net, password lozier.

That's awesome. Specially the talk system.
Is it for JK or MOTS?

My original plan with Boshren had been to use Mage Rage to sprint up to the castle wall while using Cinder to burn everyone's weapons who stood in my way. Then I would use Whirlwind to knock everyone back and fly over the soldiers pressed against the wall and then run into the castle through a backdoor. I was hit by five arrows before I even got to the wall.

This fellow, however, didn't seem to have any trouble:

He turned night into day before the siege and then transmuted all his enemies into assorted fish, food, and architecture over which he climbed into the castle.

(Disregard the dflt.mat by Boshren's left shoulder... :o)

The 'Hamachi Build' of RoX was a mixed bag. I made a lot of progress with the quest system and finally made the Scout a useful class, but I still have some very pesky crashing issues, and some syncing problems with the spiders (which I might scrap) and some of the spells.

I think, by far, the funniest crash resulted when I used the Transmute spell to turn MZZT, who was hosting, into a plate of food and ate him. In another test, Ishionu said, "I turned around and saw a bed chasing me..."

Stay tuned for the next build in a couple of weeks, where I hope to make destructable fortifications, a finalized class system/levelling tree, and siege weapons!

Yes I crashed alot. Very nasty crashes... IE I had to put my comp to sleep and then unsleep to get the taskbar to show up, then I had to run a cmd.exe session and toggle it fullscreen to get mouse control back from mots. Then I could close mots.

dflt.mat in MotS is blue and doesn't have those annoying yellow lines.

Truer words haven't been spoken... well, in a while. I can't wait for this, I'd take the transmute spell all by itself. Oh, what fun I could have...

Oh yeah, I forgot, hehe :o
Haven't dealt with mots in a long while...

At least it's not nearly as much of a standout as JK's dflt.mat... you could probably leave your level like that and no one would notice ;)
