So yes, after finally escaping from the broom closet, I have returned to show off my current work.

Before anything else tho, I want to say this: None of these are finished. Or anywhere near that, as you can see below.

I've had this delusion in my head for a while that I'm going to make a game. It started with a very short beginning of a story that I thought of, and now I've got a decent amount of details in notes on my comp. It's supposed to be a turn-based RPG, because I like those a lot more than this Action-RPG nonsense, and I think the story fits better with that style.

At the moment, this is just something I'm working on in my spare time. Progress is really slow, but I've got a decent start: the models below, my pages of notes, random drawings, a few smaller models that I'm not ready to show pics of yet, and the key ingredient - an engine. Bought a licence for Cipher ( www.cipherengine.com )... has all the features that I might want to play with and try to use, not to mention it was only $100, if I remember correctly.

Well, enough of my babbling. On with the pics!

First, a model I'm calling Anubis. Not sure if that's going to be the final name yet, tho. 1300 polygons at the moment.

Next part is a castle that's at the end of the game, but the player will see it throughout the story. The least finished model I'm showing at the moment, but also the most complex I've attempted so far. Trying to build it with the Cipher Engine limitations in mind.

Actually, the idea for this came from a conversation I was having with my girlfriend. The image popped into my head, and when I thought about it a little while later, I said to myself "I have to model this." :P :)

2566 polygons... and I won't even try to guess how many it'll be when done.

Next up is... myself. Yep, putting myself in my own game. Why not? If I do finish this, it's most likely not going to be seen by too many people, so what the hell, right? :P

This is the one that's closest to completion. I like how the shape of the model itself turned out, and it's (somewhat :P) accurate.

3589 polygons, and I think that's where I'll stay. Already started unwrapping.

Feel free to comment. Just keep in mind, everything is a work in progress, and everything (should) look better with actual textures on them, not this 3DS Max shader stuff. :P

Falcon... do you want me to host these images on my server? They're taking forever to load.

Bah... that sucks... never had a problem with that image host before... oh well... Gris, PM me where you want them sent. If I could log on to AIM, I'd just send them over that, but for some reason the AIM server hates me too. :P

bah.. no pics... and I am also confused about the whole "i'm coming out of the closet" thing..

use massassi's EC, or JKhub's project pages.

Partial success... I have three at the moment I can put up so I don't get yelled at anymore, or some nonsense like that. :P

[Edit: See images below.]

...I know, the top of that bed in the last one is weird... gonna redo that.

You know if this is supposed to just look out into infinite space it's ALOT better to use a box shape rather than a weird blob shape like you did, and use a skybox texture.

Since this appears to be JO/JA, go up to textures | skies and find one of the space ones (and I mean use the cyan texture with the black SKY word on it... that is how you do skyboxes.

It's not JO/JA... If you reply at least take the effort to read what it is about ;)

Yeah, it's not a JO/JA project, but neither is it JK, so it's not really appropriate for posting on the JK Hub.

its showcase giraffe, are you telling me the people posting lyrics and poetry have don't any right as well??
2005-06-08, 8:36 AM #15
No, this thread wasn't what I was talking about.

SonOfSatan created a project on The JK Editing Hub and is hosting the pictures from there. It's not a JK project, and therefore he should host these pictures elsewhere. This thread is perfectly legitimate.

Giraffe: I know, just saw Kirby mention it and said "why not". If it's really a problem then I'll just put them somewhere else. Still got an open invitation from Grismath, I think.

Mega: Honestly, I have no idea why I decided to use a hemisphere for the sky. But, as I forgot to mention in the first two posts, I have no problem with changing almost anything, as long as there's a reason to. And turning that into a box is a good idea.

Bah, it looked like a Q3 brush engine :o and pictures > text.

My advice for using a skyBOX for lesser pollies still stands. :) The technique that is used sorta stretches the textures so when you are in the middle of the box it doesn't look like one... it looks like there's an infinite world around you. :)

Almost the same concept as this stuff, download the viewer and some textures and play around with it and it should give you an idea of how skyboxes work: http://www.advsys.net/ken/kube/kube.htm

I apoligize, this is my fault. Had I read the thread, I would have saw that this was not for JK. I'm going to have to delete your project page, but I'll host your files because of my mishap. And I would be happy to host them either way:
