I've been trying to contact AHappyBug@hotmail about remaking his map - Morpheus for JK - into a Half-Life DM Map and perhaps extending it into a TF CTF map (just a mirror version added to one side for the other team)

anyway, hes not responding to that e-mail (not supprising, its VERY old), Does anyone know how I can contact him?

im looking to get him to beta test it and ok it for public releace, it is HIS level after all. i wouldnt want to upset him with a remake he thinks is crap...

im trying to use the attach file box but it doest seem to be working...

Provided you did it completely from scratch, it probably wouldnt be a problem. In fact, if Morpheus has any sense about him, he'll know that you porting his map to another game is a form of praise for his work. I dont think you'll have any problems. :)

The reason it wasn't working is because the internet can only handle JPegs

i dont expect so either. He gave me his promition to make a JO version which I compleated, except for the lighting, but never releaced because, frankly, I really hate the Q3 Engine physics so I deleated the entire game from my hard drive and the uncompiled JO Morpheus went with it. I always felt bad about that so i figured i'd do it agen. But I have to say, JO's textures matched WAY better than HL's

You didn't exactly have to texture it as poorly, or do it identical in visuals either. The same map could have been produced with snazzier visuals.

well the jump pads between the 2 buildings dont work properly either... not as well anyway.
I plan to make 2 versions, the first I thought would be a port, the second a "Re-interpretation" in which i'll be able to change things to make it suit the half life game play a little better. allong side a better bulding texture system, one thats more reallistic. but thats not something i'd wanna just go and do without say-so

besides, I think remakes should try to match the originals as best they can visually, it just gives it that classic feel...
I think the major goal of a Port is to give the impression that its the same map, just with different guns. in that way, its more like art.

Put some more life into those buildings, it doesn't have to be the exactly the same as the jk one. Other then that, it's nice.

When remaking old levels in new games, the only thing that should be kept is the layout and overall feel. All textures and architecture needs to be revamped.

the problem with that is- no internet connection on my computer, thus, no half life 2....im actually pretty pissed about that. however, if i did get h2 on my cpu (im getting internet shortly, well TODAY actually) it would be extreamly easy to port it into hl2 format because it used the same editor, all i need to do is load up the h2 fgd and textures and load up the .map file under those settings.

There is a pretty well working steam emulator out there. Try to find it, and you can finally play HL2 on your unplugged PC.

If you get the jump pads working it would be awsome. I remember how much fun this map was, and in Half-Life it could be even more. You can buy Half-Life 2 retail, then you don't need the internet, I thought. And with collectors you get Half-Life Source with it, then you can get Half-Life Source DeathMatch when it's released and port it again! :D
