I've been doing more work on Raidal City for the Life of Grismath (MotS). Once I complete the city center, I'll branch out into the rest of the surrounding city.

Here's a general layout of the city center. Once I've put the finishing touches on the four Ministry buildings, I will build the Governor's offices.

The Union Territory banner of the star and stripe hangs tall from the side of a Ministry Building in Raidal City.

Here's a street-level view of my progress thus far.

This is pretty neat. I like how you have built this with architecture
instead of 3dos. It's amazing that you are able to do stuff like
this without breaching the ajoin limit. I like everything except for
the textures. They're ok but I would like them a lot more if they
had more variation and an altogether more realistic look to them.
Excellent work!

Thats looking good. Reminds me of the Eastern Bloc/Finland suburban architecture from the 1970's with that flag and all.

jedi I, there is no adjoin limit anymore. Though I don't know if Gris is using it or not.

Sige didn't remove MotS's adjoin limit, just JK's. At first glance I didn't like the big bland concrete texture, but after giving it another glance, it really isn't all that bad; check out a large boring concrete building, that's basically all that concrete looks like.

It looks nice, a shame it's MotS, but very nice.

Seriously.

What are the advantages of using MotS over JK anyway?

... I don't remember much of the really technical things, but MotS has better possibilities to create single player levels. Also, every excellent SP level is for MotS. Okay, more likely, there are far more exciting SP levels for MotS than for JK.

Well, MotS has like a dozen new COG verbs (pretty much all of which are awesome) including the playeraction: stuff. It also gets colored lighting which isn't a big deal. Hm, I guess the 0x80 flag for COG files is implemented too. There's also the multiplayer character classes system which is mildly interesting. It has a screwy alternate crosshair graphic thing and some UI overlay stuff that has been used to do neat things.

You lose smacker movie support. The force power selection menu sucks rocks. I'm not sure if anyone has used the MotS .san movie format.

It doesn't have any serious advantages and has a few trivial and non-trivial advantages, but less people own MotS than JK and the advantages to MotS don't make it worth working on (in my opinion and quite a few other people's).

I once tried to manipulate the MotS executable to use JK data and more-or-less play JK but could never get it to load JK level .jkl files properly (there was some difference that I didn't put a lot of time into exploring). I think it could be done, although distributing such an executable would likely be unlawful.

Until then, its just humping. ;)
Code:

elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}

Colored lighting.

Dialog with NPCs.

More cog verbs.

Grismath is making this in mots. In my helms deep level I had
a major problem with the ajoin limit. I found out about the
patch and went looking for it. It turns out that the mots game
engine is different and harder to track down the ajoin limit.
They were unable to make a patch for mots. That's as far as I
know. If you have the patch then tell me where you got it and
then I'll know I'm wrong about the no patch thing.

Wow, that's really cool... :)
That reflection in the windows is uber schway!

I don't know what your plan is, but if you have an opening somewhere maybe you could make a frogger-like game thinger and cross the streets, avoiding cars, thugs, and other stuff... :)

Wait, so Sige is Hellraiser's "secret friend" who made the thing/adjoin patcher and the mousewheel thingie?

I think part of that flag is transparent where it shouldn't be... that little outline bit.

Nice work, to bad I don’t have MotS. Maybe put something in the center of the four buildings, like trees or a water fountain.

I just realized that intersection is unrealistic. :X No way would any city designers put something like THAT there :X Realistically it would be a simple cross intersection. If you did it that way you'd have a bit more sidewalk space to work with too. :)

2005-06-25, 2:58 PM #21
That is awesome. You should make it so you can go inside o' them.

That large area of sidewalk in the middle is where I'mg going to put the Mayor's office, which will feature faaaar more elaborate architecture than the tired and grave ministry buildings. The setup is supposed to be very oppressive and authoritarian, so I based my architecture ideas off of Pyongyang, North Korea.

I noticed the flag transparency bit also, and I'll try it with that part filled in, but I think it looks fine as is, too.

Yeah well if I had to drive through that every day, I'd complain to the department of transportation or something. :p
