I'm not quite sure if this belongs here, but in some way I'm showcasing the final release of Knubblz which is available here.

I'd also like some feedback on this final release, which after two years was unfortunately drastically cut.

Looks like some Mario-Style goodness. I'll reply once I've played it a good bit.

Dude...

That game is really hard. I got to the 2nd snow level and couldn't beat it, and I ran out of lives and didn't feel like starting all over :p

Really fun stuff! :)

Elmo, where have you been? Whens the past time you posted?
2005-06-26, 7:41 PM #5
The game is a bit hard, but thats what makes it so much fun. The graphics look too mspaintish although the background is nice. The music is horrible. Hillbilly music midis. It can't get any worse. It's good, but small things could make it a LOT better. Original music and better graphics go a long way. But for what is it, it was really fun.
Think while it's still legal.

1. yeah it has always been quite hard.

2. they look like mspaint because that's where all the graphics (not the backgrounds) originally come from. After two years all I did was some slight Photoshop touch-up. We once had a completely new graphic set planned... but as I said, this version was drastically cut so we could finally release at least something.

3. we didn't have any original music. I know it sucks, but that is why you can turn it off.

I think the music is actually quite bearable. Heck, I even sorta liked the menu music.

I'm a big fan of your old levels Elmo, nice to see that you're still around and making cool new stuff.

I didn't play for very long, but it was quite fun. I think it would be preferable if the player could use the mouse in the menu. Not a game expert myself, and was never much into Mario, but this is quite a fun little mini-game which I'd like to see completed!

From the screens that looks amazing! I'm going to test it out, give you some feedback.

It's not bad, but you should try to lower the fall/jump speed. I only got to level 3, so I'm not sure about graphical diversity...

When we see a fun game, most of us usually don't assume 'man, that would make a cool port for JK'

Cool game, but it's pretty hard. You did that in C++? And is the engine free?

With a mere glance at his website, I was able to determine that he used this engine http://grinninglizard.com/kyra/ which is LGPL and built on top of SDL. So, yeah, it's in C++ and free. The engine claims to have a python binding, so the game itself may be either in C++ or python. The game is not required to be open source itself, but I hate python so I'm going to hope it's in C++.

Awesome, I remember playing this game a while back and liking it.

I'm sorry. I'm afraid my computer isn't sophsticated enough
for your game. It had such slow control response that when I
tried to run it kept going and when I tried to shoot it was like
a good five seconds later when the red balls came out. Yea
I liked it. Even though I can't really say much. It's cool people
make entire games like that. It reminds me of games people
used to make with Q-basic. A lot better grapics of course. That's
pretty cool.

How can one hate python? What scripting language do you prefer?

Mind releasing a zipped version? Your installer keeps bombing on me.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

Perl :) Anything that doesn't use white space to determine program flow.

You hate a properly designed language and prefer a moloch that consists of thousands of design philosophies, none really working, and should be dead since shortly after jesus?

I find your lack of perl knowledge disturbing.
2005-06-30, 1:37 PM #25
You underestimate the power of the Perl side.

And so do I. I still have good inside me. I can feel it.

I despise python because it uses tabs for block structures. Sure, it prevents hard to debug errors that morons make. But it also limits my formatting options. I can't do things like split a long function call onto multiple lines. I can't even un-indent a block to give me more line space.
Perl kicks ***. It's integrated regex stuff is awesome. No other language can match it.
But if you really want the ultimate, use lisp.

In practice, the scripting language I prefer is C++. If I actually need scripting, I'll use angelscript. www.angelcode.com
