JK needs more editing happening

anyway, I made new hands for internal view because the original hands (like 40 polygons or something) in JK just wont cut it anymore.

also a new weapon to go along with them
[http://img159.echo.cx/img159/2087/newgun20ka.jpg]

The hands have pivoting finger joints so animation should be more versatile. I might change the gun's textures later on

[edit] stupid thread title, oh well

Really nice gun, but the hand... You should take a look at Shreds work.
Nope, I'm not french.

What's wrong with the hand? I think it's pretty good.

I think those look great!
But where do you people find those textures?

Excellent, but can we get some different angle shots of the gun?

I think they're both excellent. The hand looks surprisingly life-like (especially for JK), and the gun model is quite beautiful.

What were they both made in, and can we see some pictures with the fingers at different angles, ie pivoted? The hand looks really good, and the MP10 looks good as well.

The finger lengths on the hands look a little off, maybe it's just how they're bent. How about some shots of various hand grips and positions?

Thanks for the feedback everyone

these are shots of the gun at different angles

I made slight changes to the texture and the clip was off by a bit

anyway the hands are fun to play around with in pjedi

I actually took a picture of my hands to get the textures and cut them up into smaller mats

keep up the feedback, I'll have it working ingame maybe in a while. I just hope JK wont stutter from the extra polygons.

I'll look up schred's work too, there has to be some cool stuff for JK out there somewhere

[edit] PS: they are all made from carefull work in Jed, the hands were especially hard because of nonplanar surfaces, it's practically all triangles. Texturing done with Force Remap, from http://www.thecia.net/users/garcher/forceremap/.

A bit off topic here, but are the textures included in that program? Where did you take the textures?

I overlooked the obvious myself yesterday on another thread -- it happens to everyone

omg, do I know exactly what you mean! (note the Consistency Checker in the following screenie)

I'm sure you already know how to deal with nonplanars, but I figure I'll just throw this out there since you, too, work in Jed -- the Cleave2VX plugin is good for getting rid of nonplanar surfaces.
Ripper is also good, but C2Vx is my first choice because I can split up the surfaces exactly how I want (if you've seen some of the nasty nonplanar -- and nonconvex -- surfaces I've made from merging, this is often a quite valuable attribute  :)). The only thing that would make me happier with it is if it would preserve texture vertices and not dflt.mat the surface :\. As a result I usually have to use it as a pre-texturing tool

btw, really cool stuff :)
May the mass times acceleration be with you.
