hi all.

i have been making a map for serious sam the first encounter for quite a while, i thought i'd better post about it in off-topic cus, well duh, its off topic ;)

it is currently in creation and is going quite well. i thought i'd post it here because there are lots of members on this board, some of them are bound to have serious sam, and i want this to appeal to players, not mappers. this is why i dont post on seriouszone.com

the basic story is youve been chucked into a dungeon and have to escape, but you have to find four elements to unlock a city, and it can only be done at the full moon. so you have to go occupy yourself until the sun sets (i will put an arena near the place you put the four elements down) and city will appear. there will be a time limit of however long in the city to get the teleport, defeat ugh-zan and go back to the job of hunting down mental. Could you say what you think in response? thnx.

Hot diggity we got ourselves a Serious Sam mapper. You'll be having an admin (Osiris/Brad) humping your leg soon, but don't mind him, he's just a Serious Sam fanatic. It's awesome that you're mapping, and sounds fun, I'll have to check it out. This thread does belong in the Showcase forum, but the admins will move it, no harm no foul. Welcome aboard, oh and all your soul are belong to us (got you again Avenger ;))

lol, i have been mapping for serious sam for quite some time, and i want to make a good map everyone can enjoy. i have taken the time to learn everything about the editor before i use up my ideas. im currently in school but when i get home... piccies!! it starts off like tomb of ramses then changes as you go along to indoor karnak style and big city will be metropolis style.

in case your wondering there will be 2 levels in this mappack. however i dont want my leg to be humped please resist you crazy admin :p whoever you are... ;)

and here is corridor near beginning of the level

i havent put as much detail as i would have liked deliberately because i want a good balance i.e. good architecture good gameplay good story rather then great architecture, crap gameplay and crap story. i think this is what makes a good map more then anything.

Make new enemies pleez.

that requires coding, modelling and mapping all at once. im making mappack, not mod. but thanks for feedback. btw i changed light ing in room with db shotgun to make it look better, because it looks too, how do i put it, exact. so i put bigger lights after deleting older ones that spread around wider area to make it look better.

edit: yes it will definately be co-op enabled, seeing as my last map was complained at because i didnt put co-op player starts in. @ mort rogue i never player jedi academy custom maps before so its coincidence ;)

We still have the db and all the files that weren't wiped out by the php worm. I can probably rebuild all the pages with a little effort but I just haven't gotten around to it. It hadn't been updated in forever anyway :(

You DO realize you can have your cake and eat it too, as they say...

If you CAN put in great architexture, there is no reason not to. Unless putting it would sacrifice from the story (impossible, usually) or the gameplay (possible, but unlikely if you plan everything right).

well i can if you want. however on the second level it might lag a bit due to the entire city being rendered at once. but i wll do what i can to make fps solid.

ive now done up to the first element. the level has 65 enemies, but i have planned the level to have at least 500 in and at least 30 mins of play. and some cool stuff in the city is planned but im not going to spill the beans on that ;)

ok, i had a problem with my level and i had to start it again, which is bad and good. it is bad because i lost my work but good because i can now put more complex architectures into the levels now that i know you want me to. it currently has 17 enemies and quite a lot of empty places. i would probably have 100 enemies if all space was filled... but i like doing architectures more so i do them. i will post a pic or two when i get in from school.
