The Never-Ending Story: The Never-Ending Game!

I told Gebohq last night I made a 3d version of the Hall of Heroes, but I'm a FILTHY liar. I just wanted him to get excited . :(

It's an NeS text adventure. I've been working on this since late May. So far here is what I have FINISHED.

The Hall of Heroes
The Sewers
The Arena

What I am working on currently is Dream Mode. Basically when you go into the HoH you can go into your bedroom and go to bed. When you fall asleep you enter the dream world where you can meet people and do things you can't do when your awake. This is the biggest pain, beacuse there is a LOT of scripting I need to do by hand.

I have a lot more to make. I haven't even started on Hell, The Robot Lab, London, and a few others.

In this game you aren't anyone from the NeS, you play as yourself in the NeS world. It's really silly and fun IMO, it still has a lot to be done, but I actually enjoy making this. I started a few flash versions of NeS: The Game as you recall but flash is to much of a pain to make games with, and this is a lot more vast than anything flash could ever do.

You might think text adventures are easy to make, but they aren't! Trust me. Every object needs to be made and programed. Then you assign in properties and what happens if someone picks it up, or kicks it etc...

I have about 10 commands for doing everything.

Ex. Talk to Geb, Talk to gebohq, Talk Geb, Speak to Geb etc...

These screenshots are from the Hall of Heroes, and the game is going to look like a no brainer, but that's just because I know what I'm doing already. So I solve this puzzle rather quick. Notice the inventory as the pictures progress as well :) (Also there is a screen that says "You found Gebohqs donuts! They're a bit moldy and full of dust...but he won't notice." But I didn't post it because of the stupid 8 image limit )

This is just ONE room in the HoH (There are about 13 different places you can go in the HoH, 20 people you can interact with and about 14 objects)

The Arena has only about 5 places you can go, but you can fight people there as well, so it evens out. I can post a fight later if you want me to.

Questions? Comments? Cheese?

Looks cool. Hopefully it won't be so anti-intuitive as the HHGttG one.

Actually the program lets you make MULTIPLAYER TEXT ADVENTURES! But i am far to lazy a man to do that. I actually considered doing it that way until I saw how hard it is.

Very nice. Very very nice... :) You'll have to send us writers betas of the game. We could probably help flesh stuff out ;)

/me :p 's @ SAJN's NeSi bit

Oh yeah -- QUESTION: I take it this takes place more or less in NeSquared? Like, maybe right after the current storyarc finishing up? Many more questions like these surely to follow

At first I was going to make a place called "The Story Arch" (Har Har) where you could go back and forth in time, but that's freaking impossible.

The game doesn't really have a set time. Because characters from as early as the first pages of NeS appear as well as characters from NeS Squared. I kind of just got the NeS world and placed you (the player) inside of it. The main reason I did this was because I didn't really want to leave anything out. Everyone loves The Machine that goes 'PING', so I made him an easter egg in the game. So it isn't like you are taking part in the NeS story line, your just in the settings of NeS.

Actually, that's probably for the best. Make it el vague and ecompassing and stuff.

BTW, it's "BING" not ping :p One more reason you need yours truely and the other writers to go fleshing this out *coughhinthintcough*

Make sure there are plenty of plotholes and craziness, and it should work great.

Might I also suggest that you do black background with white text instead? It would probably fit in with the old text adventure style better :D

I think the text color etc. is an option that the player can change, I'm not sure though.

I would love to help write for this.
"Your entire base belongs to us."
"It would be highly appreciated if someone would set the bomb up for us"
"Launch all of our ships, christened 'Zigs', to insure that justice will be achieved swiftly and powerfully."

Of course. If any of the NeS writers could help write for certain parts and situations, I'd love the help. I only wrote for NeS squared myself, and I havent read all of NeS, so any help is welcome.

There's really nothing to be clueless about. Start reading at Never-ending Story Squared, and you'll learn EVERYTHING you need to know to write for the story :D

Don't worry, you could have never heard of NeS and you could still play through this. You might not get some of the jokes, but you can play through it.
