Just a crazy idea I had... :) A cookie to who guesses how I did it (because I know it's not that obvious  :p)

Gee...could it be the laser pointer method??

my guess is a freaked out jkSetFlags(player, 0x80); to project the lightsaber beam. I've tried that to make a muzzleflash in external and internal with crappy success.

and / / / / / / WARNING REALISM FREAK WARNING / / / / / / I don't think laser sites have visible beams like that that can visibly trace to the shooter, especially not on sniper weapons.

anyway, it's cool and whatever is fun

Why is the answer to why always why? Why is there no final answer to why? Simply why not? Holy cow, this is pretty deep, meaningful **** I wrote. Glad I wrote it down. Oh man."

I doubt it's those particular flags. But yes, it's pretty obviously a saber of some sort. Most likely with the node at the end of the gun. I'm guessing this was inspired by the saber through the neck post in the editing forums earlier today.

Does the "saber pointer" (if we're right in what it is) go through walls or stop after collision?

You're right, they don't. Most lasers aren't visible without something to refract the light, like fog, dust, etc. Green lasers are fairly visible in the daylight, but only a faint, translucent green. They get rather bright in the dark though, and look spectacular. I believe these are being used more on SMGs and assault rifles, where you want to see a straight line to your target. Sniper weapons would be using a red laser, if that...probably just a scope.

Edit: Just realized it's actually made of a saber. I thought it was just a laser pointer with a saber texture on it. In that case I assume it's an actual saber, which is quite cool...

Yeah, I know -- I was just mimicking the 007 - Agent Under Fire sniper laser thingies because it looked neat  ;)

Well not really... I started this about 2-3 weeks ago, but for some reason the saber wasn't being created.... then I found out (when working on Dominik's thread) that I need the 0x200 actor flag to have sabers on actors... ;)

It will soon... I was firing a dummy projectile in a pulse to see where it collides with a wall, and set the blade length to that distance. Though I think the dummy projectile I was using wasn't set to collide with walls and such, (which is why the output numbers at the top of the screenies, the distance from the stormie to the dummy) say 800 or 799.999... It can't be too hard to fix this, though it won't be perfect.
