maybe could have a secret reasearch facility hidden under the island by the US govenment experimenting on Little Et's and their ships lol:D
The drawings of a fox eating a rabbit illustrate nature's intended course: the weaker species are justly but inevitably devoured without mercy by superior forces. We are those forces. Run, rabbit, run!

Actually, it has several roles. Research, Resource Processing, and Command Center are the three primary roles.

Texture transition is something I'm working on. It's not as easy as you might think because of how I'm doing the bump mapping (imitation). I'm researching a few different techniques (basically, I'm trying to avoid making 24+ mats to handle transitions).

Prodigy, the water is going to be 3do waves...eventually. They'll use a special mat set (to make an animation). These textures will highlight the waves and crest on the beach. The grass had little to no effect on my 900Mhz, intel video, 256MB ram computer I have at work.

Things are picking up at work, so I'm not sure how much more I'll be able to do on it over the next week or so. So, I'll probably start a new thread once I've made some decent headway. Don't forget, however, that this map won't work without the code...

Why is the answer to why always why? Why is there no final answer to why? Simply why not? Holy cow, this is pretty deep, meaningful **** I wrote. Glad I wrote it down. Oh man."

The bump map imitation is already implemented on the grass that covers the surface. If you'll look closely at the last shot you can actually see where the "bump mapped" grass (imitation) overlaps over onto the beach area. That's part of how I'm handling the transitions. The other part is having the grass 3do's also overlap the "seam" between the grass and beach texture. This also allows me to overlap cliffs some, just like grass tends to do in the real world.

What I'm still trying to figure out now is how I can add a dirt path on the island....Hrm, and actually, while writing that I just figured out how I'm going to do that as well. Maybe I can work up a shot tomorrow. :)

Halucid, it really isn't that bad, at least as far as the art goes. I've had the last 4 years to perfect my out door development techniques. ;)

What I find weird is that you are doing this all at work! What kind of job do you have anyways??
2005-07-19, 6:28 PM #47
A saveYourCompaniesAssBeforeAnAudit job. :) Hell, most weeks I don't even actually put in 40 hours, but my manager tells me to put down 40 anyhow. Now, fixing everything caught in the pre-audit isn't all I do. I've developed a very useful intranet system for tracking and reviewing all kinds of different data. This alone has already save the company thousands, if not millions (by catching and preventing errors by allowing anyone to have access to the data from the comfort of their desk, there for minimizing miscommunications). Some of the managers have even used it in presentations. The customers (Mercedes) have been very impressed with it as well...

Actually, I kinda liked the "volcano" thing... it looked like a smoke stack.... (it definately didn't look like a volcano though)... it gives you the impression that the island isn't what it seems.. and there is an underlieing mass of machinery... then again... i could just be stupid.

Okay, here's my first attempt at the dirt path:

Thoughts?

[edit] I'm thinking that I should move the 3do grass off to the side more. It's very obvious there that they are made of paper.[/edit]
