Not that anyone will want to.

That map sucks.
2005-07-19, 4:06 PM #3
No duh. It's just to show off the textures.

On an aside, the forums suck.
2005-07-19, 4:13 PM #4
Yeah, almost as much as YOUR MAP SUCKS
2005-07-19, 4:31 PM #5
The suckiness of my map highlights the hotness of the textures so that you wouldn't be blinded by the architecture. End of story. Meanie.

On the other hand, there ain't a single sensible reason for the forums to be so insanely bad. Or maybe there is.
2005-07-19, 4:32 PM #6
It's a SECRET reason

or else they were broken by the crappiness of your map >.>

there's no reason for those textures to be as large as they are. They could be cropped and would look identical. Practice more.

There actually was initially enough variation in the textures for it to be so large, but it tiled horribly, so out came the Highpass filter. Maybe that was a mistake.

Better?

That is, other than the fact it tiles like wallpaper.

The dark spots need to go.

I spent 30 seconds on the image you gave me using nothing but the magic wand, sharpen, offset and highpass. This is the result.

Zuljin has never played well with others, but I reckon he's a thumpin' good artist.

Yes. Zuljin is an excellent texture artist who has been making 'em far longer than me, so I respect his opinion. Plus he's just.. like.. sexy and all.

Zuljin, what you did vastly improves the texture. That's how the other one was originally supposed to turn out. However, textures that require more obvious, decal-like detail always end up being conspicuously repetitive, and no amount of cloning seems to correct it. Any suggestions?

make the most dirt start at the bottom, then get less dirty as it goes up. kinda looks bad in the middle-ish.
2005-07-21, 6:46 AM #27
Good idea, but it's based off of this photo of an actual wall: [http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/181268/2/Concrete_with_Character.jpg]
2005-07-21, 7:46 AM #28
yeah, im sure that there was a splocth soemwhere on that wall that made it above the bottom, notice how that doesnt tile to the right? prolly doesnt go to the left too much either.. it would just look better if it was dirty at the bottom.

You're second set of textures are much better than the first I think it's the shade of color you chose.

Unless you're going to make use of the extra depth 512 lends you, you might as well make your textures 256. There'd be no difference in-game. Just because you can make larger textures doesn't mean you have to. Look at any texture set, there are still smaller textures. It depends on how much detail is necessary to complete the effect.

The above doesn't apply to your second set, although the dirt needs work as was already stated.
