Officer's Quarters
2005-07-24, 11:11 PM #1
This is the basic format for the Officer's Quarters of the Enterprise, consisting of a sleep area and an office area. Please note that this is just a template so far, so I have not added decorations, plants, paintings, etc.

And remember, this is from around the same timeframe of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan before any trekkies start telling me it's incorrect or something.

Let me know what you think!

Why is the answer to why always why? Why is there no final answer to why? Simply why not? Holy cow, this is pretty deep, meaningful **** I wrote. Glad I wrote it down. Oh man."

That's amazing... what kind of framerate do you pull in a level like that?
2005-07-25, 7:19 AM #8
Great as always. However, I gotta ask: how many rooms/compartments are you going to have? It seems like you've been at it forever.

JM: I'm not sure I like it much either, but it's in the movie, and one of my goals is to make it as close to the movie as possible:

Yummie Cookie: Framerate is good in this area, about 50 fps. The bridge and the engineering section get really low framerate, around 10 fps, due to the amount of 3DOs in those areas.

money bie: Well, I have two other ST projects, and I put those two on extended hold for a while. Not sure why, I guess mostly due to lack of character models and the feeling of having "no hope" in completing it. However, here's a list of all the decks of the Enterprise I'll be making for this project:

RUTHVEN: If you want to make character and weapon models, then by all means go for it! The character models for this timeframe of ST are different from the ones you have already begun, however.

BSR, the map looks quite awesome and very acurate to what I remember from the movies, defintly a mod I'll be dusting the old JK CD's off for.

You know BSR, there are only so many ways we can say 'wow'. You should be working for paramount by now; why haven't you sent out portfolios?
2005-07-25, 11:59 PM #12
JM: Do you really think that would work? If I sent them shots of this stuff they might find work for me? What a dream.

Or are you just joking.

Well, I don't know what types of jobs they have open at paramount, but your work is definately professional grade. Now all you have to do is finish it, release it, and put the finished product in a portfolio (as well as here on massassi :D)

Game companies don't want levels, especially for an old game like JK. I think the problem you would have is that the stuff looks incredible for a 10 year old game but compared to modern games, it is merely drab and poorly lighted. Somehow you have to express to them 'Hey, wait, I did it in an engine 10 years old!'. I'm sure if you applied the same attention to detail to a Doom3 map, you'd come out with something that will land you an interview.

Those are 16 bit freaking maps, bub. I think you should shut your pie hole and watch as BSR gets a job and you're still on an internet forum telling everyone how much you know. Quite frankly, I'm sick of it.

JM's custom title makes me smile whenever I look at it; it fits like a glove, and I'm constantly reminded of how appropriate it is. :)

?

BSR is being held back by JK. You can't argue against that. His stuff is great, but JK just can't compete with a modern engine. If he can do that in JK, what could he do with a newer engine? Think about it for a moment, then decide if you want to clarify what 16 bit freaking maps is supposed to mean.

And I'm not telling you how much I know, I'm telling you what I know. Theres a subtle difference.

Okay okay....there's no reason for an argument here. I am in no way offended by JM's comments and see no reason for him to be reprimanded for it. He was merely expressing an opinion, which is something I welcome from all of you guys.

He is correct, however, as I am being held back by an older engine. However, it is my decision which engine to use and if my potential is hindered by this, then fine. It's something I accept and struggle with often.

I don't see anything wrong with what Mr. JM said. Presenting what should be common sense is, as far as logic confides in me, not equal to standing on an egotistic soapbox.
2005-07-26, 3:01 PM #21
On the other hand, I am an egotistical *******, and will argue the other side, even against myself, just to cause trouble.
2005-07-26, 3:19 PM #22
Hey, cool! I've argued with myself before too. However, it only became enjoyable when I dropped the use of logic and resorted to a myriad of inventive insults.
