Ultimate Domination release candidate 1

Get it here.

This is a gameplay modification for Jedi Knight. It's kinda based on the domination gameplay mode that is present in classic UT. Players get score for "possessing" certain hotspots. These hotspots can be "captured" by any player by simply walking over it. A hotspot delivers 1 scorepoint to his owner after 10 seconds. So it's not just about running around with force speed and capturing as many hotspots as possible...
To ensure the mod can be played in any level, I've created a new item that let's the host place up to 16 of these hotspots throughout any level. I've also had to use very generic cogs and templates, which are A) present in any level and have B) a low probability of being overridden by other mods, to raise the compatibility factor. The result is pretty satisfactory, as I have not yet found a level/mod combination that doesn't work. See these two screenshots, unbelievers:

I've also made sure teamplay and score/time intervals work.

Please, if you find any bugs, post them here or over at the jkhub...

Noice work, guv'nor (gets shot). Now if I could just figure out why the hell I got rid of JK a year ago... all these sweet new mods/levels/complete engine overhauls coming out... :(
DO NOT WANT.

Looks awesome! I can't imagine the amount of cogwork that went into that. Oh, and excellent choice of test levels. :em321: :)

Sure, we can make JK pretty, release amazing levels and cool new models, but without mods like these, no one would do anything but look at JK levels. This is a fantastic service you've done to the community, and I for one am willing to help you with anything you need at all, like a platform model or whatnot.

Still using beta 9? You DO know that SS3 was renamed to Fatal Resistance and since beta 9 has gone up to 9.7a, which I like the best out of the series, including 8.5 and 9.0. You can grab 9.7a at the JK Hub.

This mod sounds awesome. I'll have to pester some of my fellow IRC massassians to play with me.

That's cool so far.... but having the player model over the pad looks a little lame
.... maybe make it have a colored "hologram" icon projecting out of them would be cooler. You can have a different color icon for each walkplayer... and have a cog automatically assign an icon to a player upon startup.

Team Domination would be easier to achieve this way, I'd imagine.... and more fun, too.

But if you have the player's models spinning over the pad, it could get confusing if someones using the same model. Too many Kyles is still a common problem, what with everyone having a custom skin that only they possess.

Are we all gunna be allowed to use yer mod to make new Domination maps? Or are you gunna hoard your coolness for yourself? And is it playable without Patch Commander?

I get your point. It requires quite a lot of work, but I'll see what can be done.

I'm not sure I understood that. Ultimate Domination can be played in any JK map that is currently available. You don't have to change maps to make it work.
I don't know how to make it work without patch commander...a .bat file?

It was chosen because it is a fairly complex mod and also well known. But it works with the new version, too:

I really appreciate that. A new platform model of your modeling highness would be included as quickly as possible. But I'm sure you have other, more important projects demanding your time...

With all these positive comments (thanks, people) I just hope this release candidate works as intended. As mentioned, I only tested it using the JK localhost multi instance trick, since I'm behind a VERY restrictive firewall.

I'll be in japan for 10 days starting tomorrow, so if I don't find any time today, I'll do it first thing when I get back. A platform shouldn't be difficult at all.

Oh, and I have a solution for same skins getting the same place. Attach a different icon above each player's head. Use this icon instead of the player model, or to retain the ammount of codework you did, place the icon above the platform's player model's head.

I just had an idea for ingame teams. The goal is to override JK teamplay (which sucks anyway, because it's more of a clone-party) and have a menu where you can setup teams ingame. To distinguish teams, icons with different colors would be attached above player's heads. These icons could then be used as platform property markings, too.
What do you think?
Oh, and, btw, what would you think about a mod that'd let you play CTF in any level, with your favourite other mod active?

Awesome idea!

Sounds good, dunno if it'll work with many levels though...

By the way, I do like the player model over the 'platforms'.

Very cool, although I noticed a minor bug. When I tried the mod, I set a platform, and then went into game mode. When I did, my view in first person fell to about the level of the walkplayer's feet, and stayed there until I self-killed. After that, it was fine.

By the way, I found a mod that Ultimate Domination isn't compatible with: Galactic Civil War(not that anyone really plays that one).

I'm pretty confident it could work in any level. It's actually not quite different from this domination mode.

Okok, I'll try to keep the model and add the icon above it, as jEDIkIRBY suggested.

Damn, I really wanted to keep this a quick mod with only little work needed...anyway, I'll just stay away from the girls a while (note to self: dig out old dorky looking glasses).

When did that happen exactly, after the fading/respawn or before it? And did you have any other mods on when this bug occurred?

They are using the same cog (item_keyyellow.cog). No way to make it compatible, since GCW uses all the cogs that come into question. Sorry...

What I actually meant is, not every level has a good CTF layout, but oh well. Good idea nonetheless!

It was after the fade/respawn, and I think I was using FRmod 9.7.

As for GCW, I don't play it. I just happened to notice.

Hmm, it doesn't seem to be a reproducable bug...
