[edit]UPDATED PICTURES LATER IN POST[edit]

For the first time in nearly 2 years ( since Nov 2003!) I was in the mood to do some modelling, inspired by looking over the models at the XWA Upgrade site. So I figure I'd look at the unclaimed ships and take an attempt at modelling a couple of them. So, here's the Carrack Cruiser that I built between yesterday and today. I used a tape measure on my diagram to make sure I was getting the dimensions just about right (granted, it's not perfect). Any suggestions for improving it, things I've done horribly wrong on it?

Most of all, I need to know where all of these bloody turrets should be placed- my reference picture doesn't give me a very good idea of how they're supposed to be placed. 10 Heavy Turbolasers and 20 lighter turbolasers (or ion cannons). I just placed ten of the turrets on there for now to get an idea.

I've also modelled the cargo tanker, but need to do the other end of it. So expect to see that shortly.

Very well done. I remember the ship, now that you've made it, but I don't know it well enough to suggest improvements. Might I suggest STAR WARS: The Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels?

Quite a good looking ship, though it is slightly phallic. :)

I remember those things from TIE Fighter, and that looks about right.

It's maybe a bit too smooth. Also, the central area is segmented, not scaled. Like this - http://starwars.wikicities.com/wiki/Carrack-class_light_cruiser

Only other good image of the ship google could find. The big ship in the middle is a bothan ship; the two medium ones are carracks. http://www.wizards.com/starwars/images/sotg_gallery/40151_GS.jpg

Alright, got a lot fixed this morning! Sorry I don't have any pretty renders, but cutting this thing into triangles over and over is a pain. So I have some wireframes, flatshades, and simple smoothshades.
I'm nearly finished with the engine block... just havce to decide what I'm doing with the smaller fourth row of engines at the bottom.
Add one of the other tie racks, one to go. Totally restructured the midsection, killing soem of the beveling andcutting the scale effect down. Reworked the little ridge that comes out on teh side, and fixed teh triangular piece behind the cockpit to be more streamlined and fit better.

I threw in some box greebles on teh under carriage and the lower back plates and the side ridge. Didn't think they'd fit in on any of the plate armor.
I'll position the turrets next, and make them smaller and try to make them less detailed. The model itself is at 3954 surfaces, but I have a few backfaces to get rid of still. The turrets, however, are an extra 1290, and that's just the10 heavy turbolasers, so I've got to kill some surfaces on those :)

I know where to place th heavy turbolasers now thanks to a reply at XWA Upgrade, but does anyone know what to do with the 20 light batteries?

Okay, without further procrastination:
