I don't know how to draw!

But I do anyway.

And just for the record, I haven't drawn ANYTHING since I was 15 (I think). Which is only 3 years, but still. And the, ehm, second shot is my first digital color job EVER. Digital colors on pencilwork = NUTS.

Well, you must have drawn quite a lot when you were 15, cause that's actually pretty good (especially the lower part).

I completely forgot to provide some critical feedback...
- his left forearm is too short
- muscles on his left arm look really wrong
- hands are too small
- Hip is strangely shaped (where his left leg connects...what's that, some kind of distortion?)
- neck is too long
- guys usually have a larger waist (it's generally one line down to the hip)
- perspective on the gun is off (the gun itself is kinda unspectacular...don't think he would present it that proudly)

It looks like Riddick as played by Johnny Depp.

Why is the answer to why always why? Why is there no final answer to why? Simply why not? Holy cow, this is pretty deep, meaningful **** I wrote. Glad I wrote it down. Oh man."

The badass Johnny Depp, though, not the Wonka one (not that there's anything wrong with him...it'd just be awkward).

The torso is a bit too small, and the legs are too short. Other than that, what zagibu said, and hot damn that's good (better than what I can do for the most part.)

I didn't mention this because it's a typical comic-style proportion issue. Might be intended.

Sorry for resurrecting a dead thread, just wanted to express my thanks for all the comments and advise. Don't want to seem unresponsive. Strangely enough, almost everything I drew after that dude was quite crappy, but I'm getting there.

Trying to draw at least 3 to 6 hours a night. Practice makes perfect. Or so they say.

Meh....at that rate it will quickly feel like work. Practice everyday, but don't push yourself too hard or you will get sick of it and give up.

Yeah I go to an art school and now I HATE to draw. Don't overdo it.

You know, I wouldn't mind if this strange and sudden urge to draw would stop. I mean, I *know* I can't draw good (well, not yet, at least), and I'd much rather concentrate my free time on writing prose - but I just can't help it. Anyways.

EDIT: ULTIMATE SUXORZ image deleted.

Hm..your first one is way, way better. Looks like they were done by two different artists...did you draw that first one from a reference or something?
2005-08-30, 12:36 AM #20
Yeah, it was a picture of a dude standing in the same very pose. The second thingie I posted is just some *actual* proof for the fact that I can't draw. Heh.

But I'm getting there, I'm getting there...

EDIT: I took that ULTIMATE SUXORZ image off my pre-previous post, as it was way too discouraging. Looked like a friggin' zombie. Once I draw something of worth, I'll post it up. Not that anyone cares, but still.

Ok yeah I thought so...one thing you should try to when drawing figures is sketch them out in shapes first starting with a simple stick figure and building it up with "pipes" and muscles until you flesh it out. The key is drawing around constructed shapes, not just using lines, if you know what I mean.

Yeah, except don't get hung up on it. I tried that and it...totally didn't work out for me. I always just freehand my drawings, unless I'm bored as hell.
