Kyle has a home!

Well, Zell got me to try GTKRadiant, and I'm now editing JO. I'm not too good yet, and I know it. I am however trying to get this level completed, because it could be half-way decent if I do complete it. Pics at http://imagecorner.sorrowind.net/listimgs.php?user=320

And the main reasons the trap-door leading out of the attic is blue and orange is becuase A) I wanted it to show up, and not blend in and B) I have no good wood textures...so if anyone could point me to where I could get some good custom textures, give me ideas for his house, and (n00b I know) tell me how to add custom textures that'd be appreciated.

Thanks!

Zlocista.

[Edit: I just realized Kyle's home is on Sulon...so...it's not "Kyle's" Home I guess...so don't criticize me on that :P]
I had a blog. It sucked.

:D Looks great for the first day! I'm glad I got you started.

Good job! Though it ain't as good as Hideout, you know, where everything was boxes and z-fighting was everywhere... sarcasm...
Anyway, just remember that the hollow tool is evil and will cause problems. And don't make bullet-proof glass. That is really aggravating. It sure is the best first try I've seen in a while.

Thanks Ifrit. And what do you mean the hollow tool is evil? Am I supposed to make each wall it's own box and piece it together like Lego's? I guess that could work...

And I'll try and get breakable glass, but I'm not so sure how to do it or anything...do you have MSN/AIM? And if you do, can I have it? I'd like to have someone beside Zell to share this stuff with. This is going to be a long project (I'm not rushing it, by any means) but I think it will turn out good.

And Ifrit, last thing. Do you know much about Radiant? Like can I ask you questions I have about it or how to do something?

I'm not really sure this will ever be submitted to Massassi (If I finish it) but if I do it'll be MP. As of right now I'm considering just makign the level and posting the .bsp on here and just give it out for exploring. But thanks anyway!

That's exactly what you should do. Make rooms wall by wall and then ceiling and floor. The hollow tool makes each brush overlap each other, and will cause problems.

And it's lazy editing.

Oh, and we have a JO/JA editing forum for your questions and stuff.

That has a really great atmosphere. Looks like something out of Fatal Frame.

Just don't repeat my mistakes, and you should be fine (*cringes in horror at the "hollowed-out-hollowed-out sphere", goes into the corner and huddles into the fetal position) At least its better than my first attempt though. keep working at it.

More pictures. I'm not going to post them, but I'll post a link to the .zip file which has ALL 6 screen shots in it. The ones that are just "Attic #" are the older ones.

Or you could resize the brushes the hollow tool makes. However, I don't think that's a good idea since that'll probably take just as long or longer as just making brushes and forming rooms. I think sometime I'll write a first room tutorial since a lot of them teach bad habits from the get go...

Just throwing this out there, but hollowing a room and resizing is the method I always used. It's not bad, you just select all the walls and move them up one square and down a square... tada.
