This is a heavy medieval-type sword, built for hacking away at things with brute force. I made it in Wings3d, and it's my first attempt at modeling in quite awhile. 1326 polys, build time was about 1.5 hours.

I plan to release it under the GPL at some point.

Comments/questions welcome.

I think thats cool ;) I would make it longer thow

Perhaps a little less rounded out? Especially on the quillions and the edge of the blade...

it looks...beefy. It looks more like a knife-sword
This is retarded, and I mean drooling at the mouth

looks bludy good to me Pagey Wagey. :D
Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}

Looks like something from Zelda, I like it!

The design is cool, but it really needs to be a little longer.

It does look rather like the Master Sword. XD Which is by no means a bad thing.

I think you should attach polies together.. and make it longer

You have overlapping meshes which need work. Otherwise, fantastic effort.

I'm going to fix the overlapping meshes near the handle (the curvy part of the guard is a piece I tacked on after I made the rest of the sword, making it thinner should fix the overlapping problem) , and I'm going to lengthen the blade as well.

By attatch polies, what do you mean? Do you mean actually merge the polyhedra together seamlessly (i'm not quite sure how to do this), or simply group them into one object (which i have already done).

Well, I was making a sword once and I had overlapping meshes like that..

I used a Boolean operation and deleted the overlapping parts, welded the vertices.. chamfered.. smoothed, and it turned out pretty good.

You should also shy away from primatives, if possible. Actually, even if it isn't possible, primatives really really aren't a good way to model. They work for very few things, and more often then not, take more work to make into what you'd like them to be than to be worth anything.

I like primatives...they are monkeys drawn with primitives ;)

Just me who thinks there's really no need for 1300 polys in that... I'm sure you could cut that number down a lot and keep the quality. :eek:

For starters, blades are THIN and SHARP, not fat and round.

I disagree completely.

I don't use the top high end modeling programs, however, so that could be the difference. MS3D doesn't have booleans.

Well, now I probably wouldn't use the booleans (because I know a little more now) but then, it was perfect for what I was tring to accomplish.

Im just saying, he's already that far into modeling his sword, cutting and deleting the overlapping parts and welding the vertices together should be sufficent. I'm not really sure though what that 3d modeling program is capable of.

Oh... ok. Sorry. I forgot you used ms3d.
