A quicky...
2005-10-13, 3:53 PM #1
I feel I owe Massasi an apology, for not having enough proof to show that my work is credible, so I've decided to start on a small thing. A lightsabre. I've started about 15 minutes ago, and here is a quick preview, I plan to have it finished soon, and then I'll release it, no its not for a game, its or everybody.
Here is a quick screenie:

EDIT: This is also going to be on TF.N boards later on, as I'm posting work there for reviews as well, and maybe on blender wars too.

Very good SF_Gold! That's how you need to start, and work your way up! I like it.
I had a blog. It sucked.

If you're planning on making objects for games, I would suggest following Kirby's cryptic advice and work on lowering poly counts. Your cylinder could have half the number of sides and still look good.

That saber design looks farmilliar (though i've never seen it as that-detailed a 3d model). Is that a JK series saber? (looks a bit like either Rahn's or Mara's saber)

15 minutes to do that? Hmm.

It's not that difficult to do something like that in 15 minutes at all.

Hey! That's not half bad. And I admire your tenacity. Not many would have the guts to come back after that last fiasco.

2005-10-13, 6:37 PM #11
yeah that last fiasco where we proved that he steals others' work.

How can we be sure this isn't stolen too? I'm still not sold.

I can't do jack **** when it comes to modeling or making levels and whatnot. I don't steal stuff and claim it as my own to make people admire me, oh no.

I make crappy MSPaint pictures and post them until SOMEONE finds them funny.

I'm basing the design off of the one on the back of the MOTS manual, how ever, I've already screwed up on a few things, and will have many things to change.

Now for the first points to cover:

How do I prove I'm not stealing this?
You'll see it as it advances, plus the fact you'll see this nowhere else, I don't care where you look, you'll never see it, because I'm making it.

Its too over polied:
Its not intended for games, its intended for 3d animation.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Wow, very good job SF_gold. A word of advice though if that's meant for Jedi Knight. Make sure each mesh that you plan to export does not exceed 300 polygons. If it does, the model simply won't load in the game. Also, because JK is old, I wouldn't recommend making cylinder shapes that exceed 8-12 sides (8 is prefered, although its ugly in today's games).

Thanks for the comment. No, this is not a JK project, or any game project. Its just a 3d model I'm making for practical use like 3d animation. If any one ever wants to adapt it for a game, say like Jedi Outcast, I'll be happy and won't stop em. As soon as the board considers the model "finished" I'am going to release it in, .blend, .obj, .dxf, possibly .3ds as well. Well, there you have it. Its time to reitre for me. Good night folks.

Also, I will be doing things like this every now and then, I like making random things and then just suddenly show them off. So expect more to come.

Well, even though it's for a 3d animation, I would suggest practicing making low poly models if you want to mod for games eventually (I'm assuming thats what you're doing, practicing modeling for a game...)

Either way, it looks nice

Glyde, the reason I didn't mention that, is because SF_Gold has already lost my trust, pointing out the fact that this could very well be stolen does no one any good, as any of us with any sense can already safely say that he's a theif.

However, I'm not going to condemn him. He could very well have made this model; it's not like its a horribly complex or difficult to make model at all, and if he did in-fact do it, I'm glad. He's sarting simple, and learning the basics.

Anyway, as the person who's already proved SF_Gold a liar, I think we should leave him be until he gives us reason to suspect anything out of the ordinary. So far, I see a well done first model that keeps everything realistically well done.

Looks nice. I never took the time to figure out Blender, myself. I got a student license for 3ds max and went straight to that.

Well I think its a bloody fantastic model! If I was mysteriously a jedi that would be my lightsaber.

The metal on the base [longest part] is far too stretched. Otherwise, fantastic work.

Nice bit of modelling methinks. Wonder how easy it would be to wield with that knob-thing at the bottom, but hey, in computer games anything can work. =D
