Sorta to go along with http://auvalmarinv.blogspot.com/ and such, this is my tripod model.
More shots as I get my software all set up and whatnot.

-I may also bring these into the RPG campaign, but not likely.

Cool! :)
I was just petting the bunny, and it went into the soup can, and part of my hand went with it. - Red vs Blue

thats... really, really cool.
2005-10-15, 4:26 PM #4
The tethers holding the death ray thing to the tripod are simple spline things, but the rest of it's all wings3d. Booyah.

-Maybe some more shots tonight, perhaps photoshopped into cityscapes for the blog thing.

it takes a lot to scare me, these days most horror movies dont do anything to me, but i watched War of the Worlds twise, both times, at night after that day i would have nightmares of being chased all over the city by those things, they scare the **** outa me, always trying to run and hide from them...*shudder*

The drawings of a fox eating a rabbit illustrate nature's intended course: the weaker species are justly but inevitably devoured without mercy by superior forces. We are those forces. Run, rabbit, run!

I know, they are freaking scary. War of the Worlds was the scariest sci-fi movie I have seen to date. The machines were done so well, and hte sounds they made.... *shudder*
DO NOT WANT.
2005-10-15, 5:48 PM #7
Thats a desktop background.
"You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!" Anyone who recognizes this quote is awsome.
2005-10-15, 5:49 PM #8
Cool drawing, but I can't believe they stole the design from HL2. How low can you get?
2005-10-15, 6:36 PM #9
Not quite the spider walkers in Half Life 2 were more slunched over and had more legs I think.
2005-10-15, 6:38 PM #10
Well, they are called 'tripods' and are almost exactly like I imagined them to be in the book that came out long before computers were invented... how could they have stolen them?

I don't know what you're talking about but it's pretty obvious Spielberg got the idea from HL2, I mean, have you played the game? It's exactly the same.
2005-10-15, 6:44 PM #12
STRIIIIIIIIIIIDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!

2005-10-15, 7:59 PM #13
You're right, man. He totally ripped off Half Life 2, and Independence Day, and even stole the name from that movie "War of the Worlds".

-stevie is such a robber. You know, he stole the name Indianna Jones from Indianna Jones and the Temple of Doom.
2005-10-15, 8:48 PM #14
They look nothing like striders.
</sarcasm>
<Anovis> mmmm I wanna lick your wet, Mentis.

Damn, now I want to watch WotW again.

Those models are really, really good.

A little backstory.
This is the kind of tripod the RPG gamers are gonna see. The race that invades is really flamboyant and whatnot. Feathers on their spaceships sorta thing. Imagine Terry Pratchet's elves in space.
This isn't a permanent skin. This isn't even a temporary skin. I don't even know how to skin things in wings3d to begin with, so I do it in my demo of Cinema 4d.

-I'll also make a different one for the blog thing. Dunno why, the project's over, just feel like it I guess.

Finally, someone who sees things from my perspective.
2005-10-16, 8:53 AM #18
He didn't steal anything, War of the Worlds was a book written along time ago before computers, so it was HL2 that stole from War of the Worlds... plus the fact that he directed Independance Day (stealing from himself?) , and you don't see too many videogaming directors anymore now do you...
Nothing to see here, move along.
2005-10-16, 9:01 AM #19
I don't know how you people can keep deluding yourselves. War of the Worlds CLEARLY stole the idea from HL2. Think about it. Giant head that kills things + long spindly legs + rampaging destruction. The only thing that's different is like some minor details and the color.

That was the joke, Gold. Congrats on being completely oblivious to hardcore sarcasm. :D

Yeah, just like everyone else in the thread. :p

Not sure about bearded_jarl himself though, whether he was playing along or being sarcastic back at me!

High-fives to CoolMatty though. High-fives.

thrawn...thrawn... slow down. did you read the book? it just doesnt seem like you know there is a book, and you think that the movie was created out of nowhere, after HL2 was made.

because when i played through HL2 i was thinking about how similar they are to the descriptions of the tripods in war of the worlds.

Sarcasm sarcasm sarcasm! My laptop is actually sitting on the book right now, so that the fan has enough space to suck in cool air.

:( When I saw the topic, I thought it was going to be the tripods from the /TRIPOD TRILOGY/. Not some stupid martians from a lame movie that may or may not have been lifted from a lame video game that also contains no original ideas. Besides, the original black and white version of the movie is much better. In that one, they look like streetlights!
2005-10-16, 10:00 AM #25
Y'all guys need to learn some like, critical reading skills... wasn't that hard at all to know that Thrawn was keeeeding >_<
2005-10-16, 10:04 AM #26
i thought it was insanely strange cause it sounded like he was one of the most ignorant people ive ever heard, and thats not at all the thrawn i know.

basically, really, REALLY dry sarcasm needs to stay off the internet. you guys are dumb.
2005-10-16, 10:26 AM #27
Yeah serriously how the hell can you interpret sarcasm without hearing the persons voice... for example...

Cazor is stupid...

Now do you think I'm serrious or being sarcastic... you can't tell cause you can't hear my voice tons... words are words of course they will be taken literal.

Black and white version?
I have an old version of WotW, but that is in color.
Sorry for the lousy German
2005-10-16, 10:46 AM #29
How funny, when I was in third grade I wrote a small 9 page book called War of the Worlds: and the lord of the rings... strangely, I had never heard of either at the time, and the story had nothing to do with them... maybe I should try writing that again...
Nothing to see here, move along.
2005-10-16, 10:57 AM #30
Nice model.

[ot] I think we need to add sarcasm tags :p [/sarcasm] [/ot]
Sam: "Sir we can't call it 'The Enterprise'"
Jack: "Why not!"

If it's impossible to tell, how come I can do it most of the time? In any case, it's not possible someone could be dumb enough to think what I said was true and still be able to type his own name.

Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich directed Independence Day. and it's based off the book.
These are things I know.
I may have to edit some sarcasm tags in just because this has gotten out of hand.

-And I was sarcasm...ing back at you in case you were serious, but was going to act like I was playing along if you weren't.
