Yes, it's cell shaded. No, these aren't texture mods... so it's limited to models. Will it go beyond this? Can't say. All questions are subject to a 3-day waiting period and background check (as required by federal law). Landfish will ride all who violate this policy.

Nice... how did you do the outline? Inverted and expanded the model with a black texture?
"Whats that for?" "Thats the machine that goes 'ping'" PING!
Q. How many testers does it take to change a light bulb?
A. We just noticed the room was dark; we don't actually fix the problems.

That is, essentially, what cell shading IS. Silly people.

Good job Asp.

I don't understand what I'm supposed to be looking at... what's diffrent... besides the lack of textures on the character...

That's not cell-shaded, that's flat-shaded and outlined.

Ive played SvenCoop for HL1 and they have cell-shaded guys for some levels, really fun. It's cool cause they look like cartoons ingame
This is retarded, and I mean drooling at the mouth
2005-10-19, 9:19 AM #11
It's cel-shading.

Anyway, put a cartoony texture on the guy. I would love to see what it would look like.

I think it's pretty awesome. THis is something I've always wanted to do with JK. I'd agree that you need a nice cartoony texture now for the player model.

Also, kirbs, could you show me this map you made, assuming you were being serious?

By "map" I meant "4 or 5 3dos reused multiple times" as a concept. I do LOTS of concept work. I'll dig around for it.

I absolutely love the cel-shaded art-style when some really good artists are behind it. XIII is a good example (game). I like it, I really do. But the first Dflt.mat person looked better IMO, because it just appeared smoother and mroe natural, where-as the spiderman is chunky and blocky looking. But I know that's just re-texturing, and not a final thing.

BTW, where did anyone ever come up with "cel-shading" anyway (the name, I mean)?
I had a blog. It sucked.
2005-10-19, 8:22 PM #18
Doesn't look chunky or blocky to me. That is, it looks considerably less chunky or blocky than the original JK player model. I like the spiderman. :)
DO NOT WANT.

hehe. That's cool

Is it possible to make the lines darker?

I don't see why the term would be hard to figure out it's origins. Shading like cels (animation cels, common term for a single drawn frame of animation)Part of it is just the contrast on the spiderman. I think as stated, dark black would look better. Particularly with a smoother model.

I think I suggested to Shred that he do that for the TDiR models, but the poly-counts were pretty high as it is. ;)

Glad to see it in action. :)

^^ there should be no problems, assuming the outline geometry (black line) is not flagged translucent :)

Oh the possibilities....... :)
