to reflect or not reflect

alrighty.. just a little level i threw together while watching my football team get destroyed, so depressing. i was able to complete the level during the game actually... however i couldn't decide between a reflective floor or not. i am currently having a few probs with the reflective floor because i am not able to achieve the lighting without it being minutely glitchy. i can tweak and fix it.. but that would take a little time and work. so before i go ahead and do that i just wanted to get your input... to reflect or not reflect.

oh and the project name is Oiraserp on jkhub and i go by Greendah there...

that is reflective...

and non-reflective

Reflective. And for some reason, this reminds me of Prince of Persia. The original one.

I don't think you would want to make the reflections just like that...
Nothing to see here, move along.

How else would you do it? It's JK, you don't exactly have many options.

Reflection, but add a translucent texture to the floor. Right now it looks like a dark mirror.
"Whats that for?" "Thats the machine that goes 'ping'" PING!
Q. How many testers does it take to change a light bulb?
A. We just noticed the room was dark; we don't actually fix the problems.

floor needs a stronger texture.

But keep the reflections
Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}

Remove the reflections but keep the parts down there. It looks cool as a 3 story room
This is retarded, and I mean drooling at the mouth

Or possibly just another, non-reflective texture. The floor, ceiling, (and one of the walls in the next room?) all have the same texture...

Isn't there a cog someone made that you can apply to a surface that makes it reflect everything, even the player, and you don't have to duplicate the entire level?
DO NOT WANT.

I haven't heard of it, but I'd bet you're thinking of a shader in Sith2, either that or a plugin for JED, but *shrugs*.

Go with the reflection but add the translucent floor.

doesn't exist zell... and in all actuality think about it, it is impossible for a cog to do something like that.

they all have the same texture yes, but that is what gives the level its feel.. its mood. levels where people use a different texture in every room or on every surface are terrible looking. how often in real life to textures differentiate based on a hallway or a different room. the exception is some houses. other than that places have a theme that they follow.

Hm, coulda sworn I saw something lke what I was thinking of in effect on a level for the jedi council room for some JK TC.
DO NOT WANT.

It's quite possible - you simply need to have a mirrored copy of the player model on-hand for a full, accurate effect.
the idiot is the person who follows the idiot and your not following me your insulting me your following the path of a idiot so that makes you the idiot - LC Tusken

To improve the reflective effect, I'd let the mirrored parts fade to black - almost fully lit were it hits the floor and getting darker where it is deeper.

I mean, use another texture.

it is possible to mirror the player yes... but it is impossible to create a mirror effect without doubling the architecture and setting the textures transparent..

You have to make mirrored .key files for the reflection though.

You probably could get around that by using some cunning vector math.
