I am instantly reminded of F.E.A.R... some of your inspiration, perhaps?
A dream is beautiful because it remains a dream.

Looks like it's got good atmosphere. Are there, perhaps, creepy sounds in the background?
I had a blog. It sucked.

Looks very moody. Personally I don't like overly dark levels though - being spooky doesn't necessarily depend on being dark. Dim forest light beams coming in through the window planks would add some interesting lighting and preserve the abandoned house feel. Give Sige's lighter plugin a spin?

It reminds me of FEAR, only a lot less frightening. I miss the atmosphere of Haven. To me, this place doesn't exactly brood creepyness: it just looks like a poorly lit house with borded up windows. Still, its got potential.

whoever boarded up those windows didn't do a very good job..

Seems kind of.. basic to me. Could use some more detail or maybe some variation in coloring...
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Lassev: I guess there was something captivating in savagery, because I liked it.

I think you should put little "child-sized" handprints on a section of one of the walls, blair-witch style...

I'm really tired. :gbk:

well, if I am boarding up the windows of my house for ANY reason.. I'm pretty confident that I won't care how it looks. All I'd care about is keeping what ever is outside... OUT.

I have never played F.E.A.R.

And this is a different type of level than haven.. which is why it looks... different.

Haven :
Level type - MP
Mood - Creepy

The House in the Woods:
Level Type - SP
Mood - Horror/Action

You are not suppose to be getting creeped out... you won't have the time.

A remanke eh? damned nice too!
2005-12-01, 7:29 PM #12
a remake.. in a certian extent.

Same name, different plot. It was insipred by the idea that I got when I heard the name "The House in the Woods".. not really by playing the level.

Excellent job so far. Is the level going to take place primarily in the house?
2005-12-01, 8:23 PM #15
yea

2005-12-01, 8:25 PM #16
So you're gonna have to defend the house from something outside? Or what?

...actually, don't tell me, I'd rather be surprised :)

On an unrelated note, if you're ever in need of ideas concerning creepiness in gaming (though I'm pretty sure you'll never be) you should check out Thief 3, namely the Shalebridge Cradle mission. Excepting your levels, it's probably the most atmospherically creepy thing I have ever experienced.

oh, trust me.. you will.... this has got to be the most severely derranged level I have and ever will make... I brought in another writer for it

Wow. This should be something, then. You've got my attention - any more that you can tell us about the plot or setting?

Hey what about YOUR horror level, Space_Bandit?

Also, Spiral: You might want to come to #jkhub or talk with SM_SithLord about making those planks breakable, he's got a really interesting new technique...

And deranged is good. I'm up for a real scare, and if anyonce can do it, it's you.

It looks rather boxy. =O And it needs more lighting, it almost looks like your average Doom 3 level. It'd brighten it up a little. Perhaps make it look more cosey and homey.

Arms coming in through the windows? Awesome.

Also, I will give you eternal mansecks if we can use that chainsaw as a weapon.

Note to self: don't make the Chainsaw a weapon...

chainsaw would be an awesome weapon.

but the blades would be difficult to do, but I hope someone gives it a go.

I absolutely love it.
DO NOT WANT.

And to think, I was just about to post "Why did you even showcase the first few screenshots? Well textured boxes: YAY!"

Amazing work. I just wish you used dynamic lighting [and if you are, higher polygonal hand meshes] so that the arms wouldn't look so JKish.

Also, you should really really really think about putting realistic weapons into these levels, as the JK arms/weapons really detracts from the cool. I said the same about haven.

Insane...

I've already tried Chainsaw, and well... blah!

Anyway, I can't wait to try this out, it's so awesome, I love scary SP levels.

I heard some people talking about jk coop mods. Will this be compatible with them? These kinds of levels (with tons of atmosphere and lots of enemies) are really great for coop :)
