I got kinda stuck on the Ferrari.. so I'm moving on to something else.

Tring to create a real looking scene here. It's far from finished but I just starting tooling with the materials.. Don't mention the wood reflections cause im still tweaking it.

You murderous swine!

If I wore socks on that uber-polished floor, I would slip up and break my neck!

but tis pretty all the same

Too shiny.

And otherwise too perfect. A part of realism is realizing nothing REAL is perfect (excluding God if you believe in Him, but modelling God would be hard).

How come there appears to be a grassy field for a sky and a sky for a ground in the reflection, but neither in the window? :p

it was the way my background image came out.. i fixed that already... don't worry zzter.. I'm working on the wood. I had took out the displacement and reflective maps untill I can get the reflection to look right.. so im tring to get the reflection to sort of blur out the deeper it gets.. like on a real shiny wood floor surface.

very awesome... floor reflection still looks a bit off, but other than that, there's nothing to give that away as a CG render rather than a photograph.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Yes there is. It's too perfect. One simple thing you can do to help is make the walls slightly darker in the corners.

looks good, needs glare on the clock

Why would the clock have a glare on it? The only source of light is the sun.

looks like there is more light coming from the left, perhaps there is more than one window in the room?

I think the walls need texture. Like make lots of splats and turn it into a bumpmap so the wall looks bumpy. I think that would make it look better. Also I think the shadows should be blurry. What program are you using?

EDIT: I think the light could use a very, very slight yellow tinge. And maybe a bit brighter.

still, the sun can only come from one angle at a time, if it is coming from left to right like in the visible window, it would be the same for any other.

the clock is fine, zanardi. nice.

Doesn't look like your using HDR. I don't know much about it, but you should use it.

Also, use bumpmaping and textures for EVERYTHING.

Perfect is far from a description of this render. Although it is a very good looking render.

Its not close to realistic or perfect.

A few things you can fix is that the nothing casts a shadow on the floor.

The lighting in the scenery doesn't match the shadow or light fall in the room, (The light source in the window is top right, the rooms light source is coming from the top left, in POV of the camera.

I've been trying to pull a realistic render myself, but its really hard.

You should also lookinto MAXWELL RENDER. Link:
http://www.maxwellrender.com/

THATS perfect, THATS realistic.

Overall I give it a 7/10 Good job, but not realistic, nor perfect.

I know you've worked hard, but all I can say is work harder. :)

Oh btw, I SEE DFLT!
2006-01-04, 10:40 PM #17
DjDTM, an HDRI probably wont help much in this scene. I'm also using Brazil R/S. I disagree with some of the things you say, a texture is not always necessary.. I mean a simple wall with a slight bit of bump map is perfect. I don't need a texture for the color of the paint on the dry wall. And yes I already fixed the dflt ;)

Besides.. I haven't worked that much on it and its far from complete. Im just suprised you guys haven't mentioned anything about the small size of that window.

You need to have dust particles floating in the lightbeam, that would be ****.

OMQ IS THAT JK?!!!!11!!!1!!!!!11ONEONE!!!!1!

seriously though, it looks VERY nice.. I like it...

especially the view out the window

oh, and where is this house loacated, judging by the time on the clock, and the position of the light coming through the window.. I would assume it is in the southern hemisphere, and the window is facing north, north/west...

and according to the color of the sky, and that comet i saw a few days ago i can judge exactly what the date is.

seriously though. why would you think about that?

Give an HDR Pass a shot, the results are amazing.

Yeah I know but using an HDRI would only really shine when you have reflective things. Look at my ferrari post for that, I used HDRI on the paint test render.

Eh I dunno, Ive done renders with it on just normal flat colors and it made it look pretty freakin good.

Render with lightmap occlusion, it tends to make corners more dirty looking.
2006-01-06, 4:58 PM #27
The lighting is a little off... The wall with the (presumably only) window is the lightest in the room. Hm?

Looking good. Admittedly, a Martha Stewart house, but good nonetheless.

nothing wrong with a clean room. :)

besides, I dont understand why you guys want me to dirty the corners. I look at my walls, they are not dirty in the corners.

dont worry.. I'll add some more detail that should make it less... perfect.

Not really "Dirty"

HDR just makes the light hit surfaces more realistically I think

2006-01-08, 8:26 AM #35
If I'm not mistaken HDR makes light bounce off surfaces and makes everything brighter.

You need fuzzy shadows. The shadows on the floor are way too sharp.
2006-01-08, 1:37 PM #38
For one, when rendering a 3d scene you used what is called a HDRI (high dynamic range image)

Usually set to your background image, or a light. It just make the light area's on the image you use (the HDRI..), to actually put out light in the render. If you don't know what your talking about with the HDRI, please don't tell me to use it. :)

I can get pretty close to the same results buy making a plane surface self illuminating. Which is what I did with the background scene.

Yeah cool matty, I'll blur the shadow a little bit.
