National Portfolio Review Days
2006-01-16, 6:01 PM #1
So, long story short I was asked to make a poster for this Portfolio review day thing for my class.

Portfolio Reviews (for those who dont know) are basically how art students get into college. A student is required to have a certain number of peices to show a school to demonstrate their skills. They have these portfolio review days so that a student can get their reviews for numerous schools done faster.

if you go there you can see previous years posters and more about what the NPDA is about.

I dont have my initial sketch (cause im too lazy to scan it) but I thought it would be fun to show you all the progress that my poster made.

Okay this was the first thing I did... nothing major. Just trying to get hte idea into the illustrator file

More with the text information on the page. Nothing special really... the text isnt layed out properly at all.

screwing around with some positioning of the text. It was a pain in the *** to fit the text into that bar, but it looks nice.

Slight change... Hard to see, but I changed the yellow to be brighter. I think it looks better.

Hey look! Good idea! "Hmm... i think ill see how fractals look instead of vector swirls" Also trying a heavier font for the title. Still not sure at this point if the fractals are staying totally.

Nope... Fractals definatley look much better. New title font... not too sure about htat.

New Title font (icky) and new calendar font.

SCREW YOU PREVIOUS LAYOUT!
Some slight adjustments and the poster looks 20x better. Whoops... some of the text is white >.<

Font color fixed... but stuff doesnt look right being forced into columns like that.

Adjusted again (Text positions and layouts)

FINAL!

Okay before you yell at me: these are ALL resized down. The poster is 17"x40" which is freakin huge.

I'm glad you ended up going with fractals. I mean just look at the pubes -- I mean vector swirls.

Make the title bigger. As of now, I have no clue what this random poster is supposed to be for, as the title doesn't stand out at all. Make it overlap the fractals some, and give it different spacing than the column below it.

Oh, and teach me CSS.

And the poster is about 4ft tall.... the title stands out fine. Having it overlap with the fractals looks a little odd... but ill give it a shot anyway. Im not sure what you mean about the spacing though
