Far Cry Editor

I wasn't sure where to post this so please move it if it shouldn't be here. I have searched google many, many times but I haven't found a good tutorial on painting textures onto terrain using the Far Cry level editor. So, that's why I came here. Could any of you point me towards a good tutorial or tell me how to do it personally? Thanks in advance. :)

I looked into Sandbox a bit a little while back. Go to the offical site and then go to the forums. They have decent bit of tutorials in the forums. Unfortunately, there aren't many Far Cry editing sites, which is a bit of a pity. It seemed like a good editor from what I used it, but there just wasn't much information out there.

Heres the site: http://www.farcry.ubi.com

And I just remembered, did you think of checking the manual? It seems like it did have a great manual, but I can't remember exactly.

I'm not sure if I have the manual. I'll go look for it. Thanks for the help. :)

EDIT: I found the manual but it didn't say anything about the editor.

the manual for the editor, it's a pdf and it's pretty comprehensive.

here's a fileshack link to dl the manual, which you can also get from the main site, here.

I just didn't like that you had to model structures externally and then import them... If it had been a brush and terrain editor, I would have been much more encouraged to keep working with it.

Yeah, I would have liked to be able to make buildings. Thanks for the help. I have one other problem but I'll check around a bit more before asking.
EDIT: Here are some screenshots of the level I've been working on.

All the main stuff.

Rentable boats. (not really but you can drive them around to the old wrecks in my map)

My personal favourite.

The theme is a World War II tourist attraction thing.

They're nice, but not sublime enuff. On your personal favorite, you should have sand on the edges, grass on top... it doesn't make sense the way it is. Also, if you used their different sand textures, the wet and dry ones, etc, and faded your beaches from the darker sand to the whiter sand (moving away from the shoreline) you'd get a more realistic, less harsh look.

It is good work tho!

I'm not going to lie to you, the FarCry editor is as easy as spitting in a cup. For something that's so simple to use, everything you've shown is pretty beginner-level. Anyone could really do that after getting the basics down in 30 minutes max. Everything looks and is just a point-and-click job.

The dock is too low, or the water is too high. Take away some of those tenders, put them closer to the dock. Change the lighting overall, too bright. It doesn't go well with the whiter shade of the sand, hurts the eyes and looks almost like snow. And work on that island, it looks like a wierd boob with a white nipple :P.

Good to see you have the basics down, but just go further with it! :D

The FarCry editor is fun as anything to mess around with. Easy to learn, hard to master. [/cliche]

It's beginner-level because its the first time I've tried to actually make something. Before, I was just spawning jeeps and running over mercs with them.

EDIT: I'm having another problem. I was messing around with the detail textures for the default texture (the grass) and all of a sudden the detail texture changed from an ordinary texture to the replace me texture:

I hate the editor for that game. Yeah, it's REAL straight foreward... but that's all you can do, terrain and placables. It REALLY limits the gameplay elements that the game offers. Doing ANYTHING elaborate requires a massive amount of modeling.
