just noticed there is a lighting error ont he ceiling in that last shot.. I'll have to fix that

I don't think more light is necessary, Delphian. It would completely destroy the mood.

Gotta say, I love the chair in the last shot. Little detail that really adds to the atmosphere - whoever was in here really needed to keep someone out, running out of wood to bar up the windows, so used the chair. Don't know if that was supposed to be kind of comical, but it's also deeply disturbing on another level.

I can't see the lighting glitch in the last shot, but in the first shot, it does appear that some of the arms are coming out of the wood, rather than between the planks. Also, some of them seem to be coming through the window at far too high a position. Unless these are mutant zombies with massive legs, or something else entirely is going on behind those wooden planks...

The texturing on the walls seems kind of bland as well. I think it's that it doesn't seem un-maintained enough, if you get what I'm saying. The walls should have the wallpaper (if that's what it is) all ripped, peeling and mouldy. The floor should perhaps be all covered with debris - leaves blown in, maybe a yellowing (bloodstained?) newspaper discarded on the floor. I don't know, it's just all too neat? Tidy? Something like that. The room in the last shot exudes that feeling of something gone horribly wrong in this house, but apart from the arms, that first room just ... doesn't.

Likewise for the stairs... the walls and bannister look in far too good condition to my mind.

Swank. I think a little more detail would spice things up a bit in that room on the 2nd picture.. some more bloody walls would be cool.. chairs, bookshelf something ect... the lighting error in the last shot isn't bothering me at all. the lighitng looks weird in the first shot.. there isn't any source.

oh and hey weren't you working on that rome building?? oh man what was it called.. ;)

If so I applaud you.

If not, *stabs*, the level is still awesome. What I wouldnt give for HL2 physics.

yes, I made all the 3dos. I think the only time I have eve used someone elses 3dos is in London (MaDaVentors trees)

as for the arms that are really high, yes.. you arn't supposta know what is going on on the other side of the boards. Also, the 2nd room and the stair way are not complete, so yes they won't look so "neat" in later shots.

i dont like it, i always turn dark levels up to maximum brightness so i dont have to squint... then all the brightness does my head in.

I just sit in a dark room. I can't play Rainbow Six with the lights on, and wheneever my computer can handle FEAR, I'll probably sit in the dark for that, too :p

I don't like overly dark levels either. In real life your eyes adjust to darkness, but in a game you just strain your eyeballs. Darker != moodier (see HL 2)

Well, you have to understan all monitors are different.. so what seems nice and "adjusted" for my eyes, might look completely different.. But on my monitor it don't seem too dark, it seems about the right brightness.. you also have to remember that when it's full screen it will seem brighter because there won't be any background beind the shots to make it seem darker.

PS, this level is SUPPOSE TO be played with the lights off :)

When I play your levels I modify the force seeing cog to run forever and not tint the screen. I get really bad headaches from straining my eyes to see what's going on, *that* kills the mood.

Exactly what I mean, Detty. It's just too monotonously dark, not enough contrast for your eyes to get a grasp of the surroundings without straining them to look for details.

And on this (not new but not that old either) monitor I'm using at work I can't see a damn thing in those screenshots, so I can't really comment on your work.

maybe he doesn't want you to see everything. i played a map for CS 1.6 called Cattbutthole. it was just a pitch black box but that was the point of it, it was just something for online multiplayer. yeah this is singleplayer but just see how it turns out. if it's too dark, turn up the brightness. try your graphics card properties, gamma, things like that.

Wow, that looks awesome. You're going to animate the arms, right? That would look awesome if some slowly swaying, while others were violently trying to grab something. Try to incorporate some creepy ambient sound effects, like weird screams. The screaming sound effects in Haven were excellent... maybe do something like that, but more... unhuman.

Yes, they arms are already animated ;) they all have individual keys, so some move slower and some move faster, and NO 2 arms move int he same pattern... cause I feel that would ruin the mood.. and yes, there will be PLENTY of "inhuman" things in this level ;)

I was actually thinking of doing something along those lines... not really sure how I'll do it yet though (not mechanically.. I know how to do that.. i mean story wise, and how to use it well)

I don't see how it's physically possible, if all the meanies are behind those planks, for them to have doused the walls in hemoglobin.
Unless, of course, there's something worse in the room than meanies.
In which case, this is awesome.

-Have the character not actually leave the room, just look out the door or something, adn then turn back and "splatow!"

You should borrow F.E.A.R's idea when you get to creepy parts, your character breathes heavily. (but maybe no heart thumping, its creepy, but unrealistic)

The zombies are not responsible for all the blood, and you can't hurt the arms because you will not have a projectile weapon, and if you go anywhere close to the arms, you get pulled out the window, and are instantly dead

You mentioned the arms are animated (which sounds SO AWESOMXORZz). This might be asking too much, but could you make any of the hands do a sort of grabbing motion?


Another idea: Add one or two more of those boarded-up rooms, but with no zombies inside. Perhaps throw a discarded limb onto the floor, but no other bodies. Perhaps they've escaaaaped... ooOoooooo...

yes, some of the hands DO grabbing motions.. each joint on the hand moves.. so each finger.. and each of which have joints... so the fingers move too.

And Descent_pilot, I can't believe that you took the AliensTC from SystemOverride and then gave him ABSOLUTELY NO CREDIT for it.. or ANYONE ELSE who worked on it... that is a really crappy thing to do :mad:

Wow, here I thought the arms would hold you against the window and slowly choke you to death or something....

I figured that there wouldn't be projectile weapons, but I didn't know if you could make a weapon like a molotov or simple flamethrower that might destroy an arm. Oh well...

HCF_Duke, its very hard to create a halfway decent flamethrower......yet, I think a keyframe for the player in a cutscene being choked to death would be best, kinda like how Mara Jade was eaten by the rancor...

<----- *hurt and :gbk:* As far as I know, System Override was the only one who worked on it, and the only thing that I have really kept of his is the HUD, player models, a couple of the external models, and the base concept. I gave him credit in the offical release readme, and I changed the page to make it more obvious. *feels sad and hurt*

but if he had done ANYTHING AT ALL on it.. you still should have given him credit... at least somewhere you don't have to look for it (so it's not hidden)

I thought he did the Alien skin too, cause I rememeber beta testing it.

Then I apologize for any transgressions that occured, but during which I was not trying to act in my own self-intrest, but the outcome of all events mentioned where a result of my forgetfulness, personal beliefs, stupidity, and/or laziness and will not occur again. I apologize for any problems that this has resulted from and I hope this will not affect my reputation because I, in no way wished to steal any of System_Overrides work in any way shape or form.

And all we see now are red x's because JKHub is down for right now.....:(

Oh I realize that it would be hard to do a flamethrower, it was just one of the ideas that popped out of my head. I could see Spiral making something like a bloody hatchet instead of a simple flamethrower and that would definetly take off an arm.

yes.. 2 of the weapons are.... 1 Hatchet, and 1 axe.

Descent_pilot: I am not trying to be mean (the reason I brought it up is cause I noticed a while ago, but never saw any of your posts.. -and if I did i wasn't thinking about it at the time)... anyway, i worked on some MP levels for the AliensTC WAAAAY back int he day, and worked closely with SystemOverride with it... recently we were talking about it, and he mentioned that you released it with his name no where in it.. i was like WTF!?!?! So just to be safe, you should try to contact Massassi about putting some credit for the others that worked on it.. or something ;) ANd i seem to remember SystemOverride making the Alien's HUD too.. cause again, he had me beta test it :)

I was workin closely with him on the mod, til he vanished into the abyss of the net and I haven't heard from him since, but I kinda gutted the mod and redid it lol. Anyways, if ya talk with him again, tell him to IM me sometime AIM - DPatMassassi.
