Thanks for all the help with the film on the General Forum. That's me in the video by the way, trying to find a way to get my car keys. Let's see where this paradox leads... Hope you enjoy.

He acted it out in reverse. Threw his car keys, fumbled his hand around, then looked all perplexed and stuff. ;)

I like the BGM btw, where'd ya get it?

Yeah, that's why i asked the reverse footage question in the other forum. Reversing film is probably the best way to get special effects, WAY better than CGI. They've been doing it since the turn the early 1900's and it works really well.

It's part of the karoke version of Confrontation from Star Wars: the Musical. It's legal and free to download right from the composer's website.

The other way to get that effect is to use a dollar snatcher, but I haven't had my hands on one of those in a long time.

Reverse looks so much better IMHO. I have some "invisble" wire, but to me, reverse just gives it that mystical effect.

Whoa, the reverse effect is only noticeable when you are waving your arm to get the keys. It's because your arms move in a strange way lol, but you have to know it's reversed to be able tonotice that. Good job ;)

Yeah. You managed to figure out the most common and easy to notice video effects in the history of film.

Congratulations. How do you think they did it in STAR WARS?

Thanks. Guess that's not bad, seeing's how I don't know ****, nor care, about about film effects history.

I don't think about how they make movies. I watch them and move on with my life.

Anyone like the new cutscenes? I thought that just the one scene with no cuts looked blah, so I added a few extra scenes. I tried to create suspense and humor all at once, and the music seemed to have a lot to do with that. The movie without music was about half of what it is now.

It briefly mentions it, I used a FREE demo of Sony Vegas 6.0 to do it. Worked really well.

Oh yeah, it is rude to post stuff like that DjDTM. If you mention it, that's good enough.

Next I will be doing some special effects with models, and if I have enough patience, try to incoperate some rotoscoping into it using Flash. Anyone ever rotoscoped? It takes a LONG time (frame-by-fram) I hear.

I have to agree. I'd probably flip out and report your post if you posted your own version of my model in one of my threads. Actually, I'd probably just hunt you down and make useful trinkets out of your innards.

I'm experienced in rotoscoping, what I do mainly is lightsabers but also some force effects (lightning for now but i'll try some others). The only thing with rotoscoping is that it takes a LONG time, you got 30 frames per second to review and play with accordingly. You also need the good programs for it, the best is Adobe After Effects but there is also Photoshop which can do the job.

I've only done stills, haven't tried rotoscoping yet.

Rotoscoping in Photoshop is hard. Well not hard, just very long and time consuming. After Effects works much better because your are able to have keyframes so the computer does most of the work.
2006-01-27, 11:59 AM #29
To do rotoscoping in photoshop you will also need premiere, because you need to do the transfer from video to filmstrip, which is a big image with all your frames placed in order. But After Effects is really the best for rotoscoping.
