Well, the Colosseum Level has just seen it's end today. I got the JED file working again (i don't know what was wrong with it int he first place) but it would always crash JK whne it was loading. So i went back to older versions of the JED file, and they crashed the game too now.. even though they worked before.. so I started a new project folder, and copied all the sectors, an dpasted them into a new file.. this worked.... But.. sadly. there were still a few more problems that finalized the END for this level...

Even with the adjoin limit patch, the colosseum has too many adjoins, and it HOMS on the 3rd level..

also the Framerate drops to 0 in certain areas.

ALSO, there is too much information for JED to handle in the architecture.. when I try to copy it and rotate to make it a COMPLETE circle.. instead of just a 1/4th (i made it this way to save time) JED says "out of memory" and crashes...

so I have 2 options as of now..

1. Rebuild the whole thing out of 3dos and sacrifice the lighting..

2. Rebuild the whole thing in JO..

It's a pity. The concept is wonderful, just imagine how swank it would look with textures...

Might look good, but I don't see much in it gameplaywise.

Given your use of the lighter plugin, you've probably hit the surface limit, which there is currently no patch for. :) Additionally, the current HOMing is likely due to rounding errors from all that rotating. The trick is, instead of rotating each section X degrees, duplicating, then rotating another X degrees, is to go back to the original each time, and duplicate it and rotate X times, then 2X times, etc. They still can't be avoided, but they can be minimized.

1. Rebuild the whole thing out of 3dos and sacrifice the lighting..
You'll avoid rounding errors. And. If you use one giant one, you can still bake the lighting on.

2. Rebuild the whole thing in JO..
Good luck. Patches in QERadiant can only approximate that. Problem with it's locked grid, lack of a proper rotate tool, and other things. JED pwns it.
Wikissassi sucks.

Go with the 3do's.

That looks good, but texturing that thing will eventually be monstrous. But you know that :p

You tricked us. :p However, I would NOT go with 3dos because JK would render everything behind it, and I would think that would make framerate all the worse. Either go with JO, or rebuild it with half as many arches.....

Rebuild it in HAMMER! If you've got Half-Life 2 that is...

Haha. I wouldn't even recommend such a thing to my worst enemies.

Your PC doesn't have enough memory, is the problem... not JED.

Jedikirby, eventually the rounding errors add up and create adjoins that no longer overlap. At best, these HOM. At worst, they appear fine until an object moves through them, and then they crash. If he was running out of memory at load time, it's just crash.
Wikissassi sucks.

he was talking about rotating all the sectors in JED i think to make it "full"...

No, I don't have halflife 2.

I'll see what I can do with it, cause I am on a really big ancient rome bend right now..

I am actually thinking of making "the forum" outside of the colosseum.. and HOPEFULLY it will look like this

Doesn't the lighter program just cleave the architecture and adjust the extra light value for the effected surfaces? If so, then all you should have to do is Merge everything, Scale it by -1, then cleave it up as needed to export it as one huge 3do. You might have some strange surfaces created with a +GEO 4 value, but they should be minimal, easy to spot, and easy to delete. :)

Good luck!

Did you try runing it in Sith2??

I think the original problem was from rounding errors that come up when saving the level. JK and jed both use text files for levels, and storing positions in text files can end up with some inaccuracy...I guess in this case it was enough to both break my lighter plugin and also jk (concave sectors, surfaces, etc.). As for the memory problem, jed is just really bad about handling large amounts of geometry; more memory won't really help, unless you don't mind waiting on jed to spend days at a time doing each command.

My plugin works by cleaving surfaces and setting vertex light values. I don't know if jed exports those to 3dos or not, but if it does you could probably get lighting that way.

I actually was able to rotate it, this is how I got the pictures, but the level won't load now at all.. it's having another error when starting up.
