You should do multiple drafts to develop interesting characters. Are these your first drafts?

Draw it out in illustrator with curves. Anything will look better like that.

keep practicing. Use different brush sizes and weights. Opacity on brushes could also be fun.

Yeah, treat it like you would a normal sketch; start out light with opacity, then tune the brush for detail
